The first weeks back at school can be a big adjustment, not just physically, but emotionally too.

New routines, early mornings, social demands and longer days can place extra load on growing nervous systems.

What we often see as “after school meltdowns” is simply a nervous system that’s worked hard all day.

Gentle support, consistency and connection can go a long way during this transition.

In the morning rush, small things like packing a school bag can easily be overlooked, but they can play a role in supporting growing bodies during the school year 🎒

A few simple tips that may help:
• Pack heavier items closest to the back
• Zip up all compartments
• Avoid overpacking where possible
• Encourage wearing both shoulder straps
Weight of backpack no more than 10% of body weight
Choose a smaller size for younger primary school kiddos.

Small, practical adjustments can help children feel more comfortable as they adapt to longer school days and new routines.
