🌈💦 BIG 4 - ADVENTURE WHITSUNDAY RESORT 💦🌈

For a quick getaway we spent a few days this week at the BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort in Cannonvale. Aka Paradise for kids!

The park has been set up so well for families of all ages. There's so much to do from the 13 slide waterpark to the pillows and playground, all the sports activities, mini golf, kids club, petting the baby animals plus the daily events! Of course we visited during a week of storms and downpours but it made no difference at all, us oldies spent more time on the slides than our 4 year old - we were gonna get wet in the rain anyway 🤷🏽‍♀️

We booked a 2 bed standard cabin which was surprisingly spacious, nothing flash but it had everything we needed. Whilst we love exploring off the beaten track, sometimes it's nice to not have to plan. We knew we just had to turn up with swimmers and sunscreen - easy!

For food we ate locally at a few family-friendly joints; Fish D'vine (the 'grown up' juice is always top notch) and Airlie Beach Treehouse spring to mind. We picked up delicious fresh produce to cook from The Prickly Pineapple, (cheese, salads and the hand-pressed juices are perfect for a summer pick-me-up). We didn't grab any pics as we were too hungry, but the customer service and meals were fantastic all round.

Also a shout out to Helloworld Travel Mackay for getting us booked in so quickly and easily. Bo was fantastic to deal with - you saved us so much time and found the best deal!

We've never been a fan of commercial parks so have been pleasantly surprised. We'll definitely be back for another easy getaway.

🌿🌿 River Rock Cafe 🌿🌿

After a morning walk with the kids to the Araluen Cascades (which is so fresh at the moment), we stopped by the Finch Hatton Gorge River Rock Cafe for a bite to eat; an amazing cafe nestled in the rainforest!

New owner's Lisa & Michael have recently taken the reins and have already absolutely nailed it. The food, the atmosphere and the service were all second to none, and I'm not joking when I say the Mango Smoothies are contenders for best ever!!

I was single-handedly wrangling a child, a baby that was over it, and the camera, so probably haven't done this place justice 🤹🏻‍♀️ but believe me when I say it's worth a visit. The Pizza's are homemade on the wood-fire oven, the Ploughman's lunch is SUCH a good idea (let's take moment to appreciate that jam), and the Sticky Toffee looked utterly delicious 🤤

I have no doubt this will be a favourite spot for visitors, hungry after a trip to the Gorge. Well done to the whole River Rock team. Next time I'll be bringing friends and an emptier belly with room for cake!

Ok team HT!!! I need your tips and recommendations again! We are a month deep into our lap of the map 🇦🇺, currently in the Newcastle region. What are the must see and do’s for the rest of the East Coast (South of Newie)???

A snippet of the destruction caused by the fires to our beautiful Eungella. It was so very sad driving through what used to be a sea of greenery...
Although there has been so much devastation and loss, we are so very thankful to the hard working efforts of the firefighters and volunteers (from near and far) who have worked tirelessly around the clock and have managed to save so many buildings and homes 💛

🌴 S U M M E R T I M E 🌴
It’s been a tough week for Queenslanders and many of our friends have suffered through these awful fires. Whilst we may have to wait a little while till we can safely explore inland, there’s still plenty of beauty to be soaked up across the region. Support local tourism providers wherever you can or just grab some shade and an esky and head to the beach!! It’s only a matter of time before the rain starts 😅🤦🏽‍♀️

EXCITING NEWS !!!

This crazy half of The Hungry Travellers has done something crazy!

We bought a caravan 🙊

We are packing up our life in Mackay for the next 12mths to do the big lap of Oz in our new home on wheels...told you it was crazy, right?!

Our last big adventure was Tasmania and I pretty much planned the whole trip based on your recommendations, so... does anyone have any advice? Whether it be destinations and places to see, things to do or more importantly for us at the moment any tips/tricks or caravan hacks for the prep stage 🙀 we leave next month!!!

🍉☀️🌴 T O W N S V I L L E 🌴☀️🍉

Living in Central QLD, if you're looking for something fun and new to do, a 4-hour drive is technically just down the road! Easy enough to do with kids of all ages, fun road trip with your friends and a 4 day long-weekend will feel like a holiday.

Last weekend we visited Visit Townsville, Australia for just that and can't believe how much we packed in to 4 days, PLUS we only just scratched the surface!!

Unfortunately we lost half of the photos 🤦🏽‍♀️ so you'll just have to use your imagination for just how delicious everything is and how good the views are from the top of Castle Hill 😅

Without all the pics there's not much point going into detail for all the locations so we'll just list a BEST OF below, so you know all the highlights and can plan a trip to visit this beautiful city soon!! JAM Corner - Delicious Modern Australian food, all-day
Wild Rice Laos & Thai Cuisine - This place we stopped at randomly for a quick dinner and became our favourite meal of the trip
Otto's Fresh Food Market - Not to be missed, so much choice for fresh and baked goods
Miss Songs at the The Ville Resort-Casino - Contemporary Asian - Best duck pancakes EVER!
The Beet Bar Collective - Fresh smoothies and bowls in the city, perfect after a hike of that hill!
The Courtyard Townsville - City Lane - Multiple eateries in a great arcade set-up, very Melbourne feel. Wish we had more time to explore the food here

Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium - Family fun - 2 hours is plenty to explore all the Nemo's and Dory's
Museum of Tropical Queensland - Again, ran out of time but was highly recommended by many
Townsville Strand From the play parks to swimming, ice cream at Juliette's Gelateria or just bike rides and walking, there's plenty to do here
Castle Hill Look Out - One of the most popular attractions but definitely worth the calorie burning effort to get to the top
Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park - Some really underrated views of magnetic Island here too, plenty of tracks to choose from and a breezy foreshore to cool down on. Hike or Bike early, luckily we went early in the morning, by the time we finished at 9-10am ish it was steamy!

Super impressed with the The Pop Up Grocer 😍Came home from a few days away to a busy schedule and no food in the fridge. A friend recommended I order and pick up a box of fruit and veg from The Pop up Grocer... What a good friend!!
The large fruit and veg box is only $60! Fresh fresh produce and we even added farm eggs, meat and milk. Can’t wait to create and cook up a storm with this lot 🍎🍉🍌🍅🍠🥦🥑
