🌏 Today is Autism Awareness Day and April is also World Autism Understanding Month.

♾ It’s about more support for and understanding of Autistic people.

🧠 Autism is when a person’s brain works in its own way. The challenges they meet and the gifts they bring.

🌱 This can affect the way people communicate with others, feel or express emotions, and experience the world.

🤝 Autism Self Advocacy Network Australia and New Zealand (ASAN AUNZ) is an Autism-led organisation dedicated to advocating for Autistic people in systems and communities.

💬 It is important that we listen to the voices of people with lived experience so that we can learn from them and shift our own perspectives.

📖 ASAN AUNZ also welcomes Autistic writers and creators to share their stories and advocacy experiences with them to help others.

🌐 You can visit their website to find more information, stories and resources from the Autistic community.

🧩 All Abilities • LEGO Club – Every Tuesday @ Capalaba

Looking for a fun, welcoming space where creativity, connection and confidence can grow?

Join us for our inclusive LEGO sessions - designed for people with a disability (and all abilities) to build, create, socialise and explore their imagination in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Why LEGO play is more than just fun:

🧠 Develops problem-solving skills – Building encourages planning, sequencing and creative thinking.

🤝 Improves social interaction – Participants collaborate, share ideas and work together on builds.

🖐 Strengthens fine motor skills – Handling LEGO pieces supports hand strength and coordination.

💬 Supports communication – Talking about builds and ideas encourages expression and confidence.

🌟 Builds confidence and independence – Completing creations gives a powerful sense of achievement.

LEGO play is widely used by therapists, educators and support programs because it naturally encourages learning, engagement and therapeutic skill development in a fun, pressure-free way.

LEGO club is led by a qualified counsellor.

Whether you’re a master builder or just starting out, everyone is welcome.

This Disability Action Week (23-30 November), let’s focus on building a more accessible and inclusive Queensland for everyone.

The 2025 theme ‘Communicate. Connect. Create.’ highlights the inclusion of accessible communication to connect people, and the importance of including people with disability in the arts and other creative fields.

It is also an opportunity to show how some simple changes we make can improve access for all.

Let’s reflect on our progress and work together to create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and included. 🫶

💛 Today is R U OK? day 💛

A simple conversation could change - or even save - a life.

Take a moment today (and every day) to check in with the people around you. Ask, “R U OK?” and really listen to the answer.

💛 You don’t need to have all the answers.
💛 You don’t need to fix everything.
💛 Just being there and showing you care can make a world of difference.

Let’s keep the conversation going - not just today, but every day.
