\\ answers come when we create the space to hear them.
I'm not exactly known for being good in making decisions and when stress levels rise it gets even more challenging.
Since I started vedic meditation 2 years ago I started to notice how much more space can be between racing thoughts and that decision-making can get easier, as I'm able to hear, see and feel them in my body.
Because isn't it at the end always about a battle between head vs. gut vs. heart?
Here is what I learnt about the correlation.
~ switching off reactivity
When we’re stressed or overwhelmed, the brain’s amygdala (our emotional response center) takes over, often leading to impulsive or fear-driven decisions. Stillness activates the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for logical thinking, self-control, and weighing options.
~ creating mental space
Pausing interrupts the “noise” of racing thoughts. This mental quietness allows us to step back and see situations more clearly, helping us weigh possibilities and focus on long-term outcomes rather than short-term emotions.
~ connecting intuition and logic
Studies show that mindfulness and meditation improve communication between the prefrontal cortex and the insula (the part of the brain tied to gut instincts). This connection allows us to balance rational analysis with intuitive understanding, leading to more well-rounded choices.
~ enhancing perspective
Stillness fosters a sense of detachment, helping us zoom out from immediate pressures and view decisions from a broader perspective. Coming back to it later helps to align choices with our deeper values and goals.
In stillness, we give ourselves the gift of clarity, focus, and alignment — a chance to decide from a place of intention rather than reaction.
It doesn't need a whole vedic meditation session.
Start somewhere small today —
Take a moment. Slow down. Close your eyes. Breathe. Listen.
Often, the answers come when we create the space to hear them.
