✂️ Let’s talk about scissor skills!
They might seem simple, but skills like cutting, snipping and holding scissors correctly play a big role in a child’s development.
Using scissors helps children build:
• Hand strength
• Bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
• Fine motor control
• Focus and planning
• Independence in everyday tasks
These skills are important for school readiness too — think cutting activities in class, craft projects, following instructions, and being able to participate confidently alongside peers.
At Stronger Together Foundation, our Occupational Therapists support children with the building blocks behind everyday tasks like scissor use, including grip strength, hand positioning, posture, and motor planning. Through fun, play-based activities, kids learn at their own pace while feeling proud of what they can do.
If you’re noticing your child finding cutting, drawing, or other fine motor tasks tricky, we’re here to help. Send us a message or visit stf.org.au 💙
