💛 This is where it all started for us
At the very beginning of our journey — during Maddie’s first OT assessment — I remember watching the therapists talking and signing at the same time.
I actually interrupted them to let them know that Maddie could hear.
I didn’t realise then that signing isn’t just for people who are Deaf.
Not many people do.
And honestly… how would you know unless you’re in that position?
Key Word Sign is widely used for children and adults who are non-verbal, or who have difficulty communicating.
And it can make such a difference.
✨ It supports understanding
✨ Reduces frustration
✨ Encourages communication
✨ Builds connection
But the biggest impact?
It opens the door.
It gives children like Maddie — who have limited ways to express themselves — a way to be included, understood, and heard.
You don’t need to learn everything.
You don’t need to be perfect.
Even learning a few signs can make a world of difference.
