Breast Cancer & Exercise 💗
In light of today's Pink Ribbon Breakfast, we wanted to share some of the powerful benefits of exercise for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
Every year, more than 17,500 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer — and encouragingly, 90% are disease-free five years after diagnosis.
Exercise plays an important role in both treatment and recovery, offering a wide range of physical and mental health benefits:
Lowers the risk of developing breast cancer
Reduces fatigue, anxiety and depression
Lessens treatment-related side effects (e.g. pain, sleep disturbances, cognitive changes)
Shortens hospital stays
Improves strength, muscle mass and bone health
Reduces risk of lymphedema
Supports better sleep, mood, body image and self-esteem
Helps maintain function during and after treatment
Boosts immune function and overall wellbeing
And here’s the best part — research shows that meeting physical activity guidelines after a breast cancer diagnosis is linked to:
💗 Lower risk of recurrence
💗 Reduced risk of other chronic diseases
💗 Better overall survival and quality of life
So let’s move, stretch, and stay strong — together 💕
