A couple of days before I flew to London last week, I started a portrait of a beautiful lady, a very good friend of mine. She is a very dear Sistar who I had the good fortune to meet in a local moon circle ten years ago (the magic of synchronicity!)
π¨
I started with a quick burnt umber sketch over a creamy peach wash blend of white, hansa yellow & burnt sienna, blocking in the spaces of the face and creating shadows and light. It's basically shapes, not a face at all at this point. The very early stages of a painting usually look awkward and nothing like you want it to, but the energy builds as brush strokes build layers of detail.
π¨
It's an idea from a couple of years ago, when I took the original black and white photos, knowing I would create a portrait one day.Who knows where it will go when get back, hopefully to a place where I am happy with the original vision, capturing the energy and the beauty of her spirit and the Soul.Wirk in progress and a long way to go !
