A recent population study found that exposure to common environmental chemicals is associated with an increased risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). These chemicals, which come from pesticides used in agriculture and residential pest control, can accumulate in the body and were shown to be significant predictors of AMD risk, along with aging, genetic susceptibility, lifestyle habits and other environmental exposures.
A new study links urinary metabolites from organophosphorus pesticides to increased age-related macular degeneration risk.
