I wanted to share my first publication with you from my PhD. Whilst clearly not canine related, it gives you insight into physiotherapy in the horse, and how challenging it can be for both physiotherapists and vets alike.

Please feel free to sharefar and wide.

Ever wondered why your dog might be more interested in one toy over another? Well, it might just be down to its colour. Dogs have a similar colour perception as a human with colour blindness. The best, and easily seen colours are blue and yellow. Reds and pinks appear grey and purple is often seen as a shade of blue. Green might be perceived as a yellow colour. It’s worth keeping these things in mind when buying your friend its new toy!

Sound advice from my physiotherapy colleague.

This recent study outlines how dogs with IVDD can respond to conservative treatment. Conservative treatment is non-surgical.

The authors concluded that if spinal surgery isn’t possible as it’s not available, or is too expensive, non-surgical management is a valid alternative.

Conservative treatment includes medication to manage pain, and then physiotherapy to help the dog mobilise, strengthen, and eventually walk again. Owners are shown how to help their dog, with specific rehabilitation programmes that can be done at home. It's what we do!

Conservative treatment can be started early, and produces a faster recovery than waiting weeks to see what will happen. Discuss this with your treating vet and get referred to a veterinary physiotherapist.
