A question our dietitians are often asked is: how many eggs can I eat?

For years, eggs were thought to raise cholesterol and increase heart disease risk, but we now know the picture is more nuanced. While eggs do contain cholesterol, saturated and trans fats play a much bigger role in raising LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and eggs are naturally low in both.

Current evidence shows that for most healthy people, eating eggs as part of a heart-healthy eating pattern does not increase the risk of heart disease.

The Heart Foundation no longer sets a limit on eggs for healthy Australians. Instead, the focus is on the overall diet - and what you eat with them. Think eggs with veggies, wholegrains and healthy fats, rather than processed meats like bacon.
For people with elevated LDL cholesterol, heart disease or type 2 diabetes, the advice is different. Evidence suggests keeping intake to no more than 7 eggs per week, as higher intakes may be linked with increased cardiovascular risk in this group.

Before the goals, the plans, or the timelines, ask yourself: who do I want to be, and how do I want to feel? Health isn’t about overnight change, it’s about intentional steps that support the life you’re building.

Design your year with purpose.
