Across Australia, employers are searching for people who can think clearly under pressure, learn fast, adapt to change and bring fresh, practical thinking to complex problems. What many don’t realise is that these qualities are often inherent in candidates who live with low vision or blindness.

Navigating without vision or with low vision, environments that often aren’t designed with accessibility in mind requires planning, resilience, problem-solving and the ability to process large volumes of information quickly – all the skills workplaces value most.

Learn more about the untapped strengths of employees with low vision or blindness by reading our article at www.seeway.com.au/a-note-to-employers/.

Tips for staying connected this holiday season
For many people adjusting to changes in their vision, the holidays can bring a mix of joy, exhaustion, connection, or loneliness, and often all at once. Small things can help:

- Let people know what lighting or seating helps you feel comfortable. Most friends or family appreciate clear guidance.
- Make a simple list of the events that matter most to you and focus your energy there. It might be the local Christmas carols, a longer phone chat with a dear friend or making your favourite dish.
- Remember: connection can be a walk, a chat, or sharing a cup of tea, not just big gatherings.

Thank you Tracey Roberts - Federal Member for Pearce for recognising the importance of holistic support for Australians experiencing low vision. SeeWay helps people stay connected, confident and independent - and we’re proud to see leaders championing accessible care.

Today I met with SeeWay. A national service helping Australians adjust to permanent vision changes.

A loss of some vision needn’t mean a loss of connection, employment, or sense of self.

SeeWay was proud to attend Vision 2020 Australia’s Parliamentary Friends Day at Parliament House. The evening was a valuable opportunity to speak directly with Members of Parliament about the unmet needs of more than 280,000 Australians living with permanent vision loss. This number is expected to almost double by 2050.

SeeWay exists to address this growing gap in support for people living with low vision. With practical lifestyle advice, bulk billed counselling, and digital skills training, SeeWay is your link to what matters most throughout your vision loss journey – because a loss of vision needn’t mean a loss of connection.

SeeWay was honoured to be invited to attend Save Sight Institute's Community Information Day and to have the opportunity to speak to the professionals who work with the organisation, as well as the people they serve, about the holistic support SeeWay offers. It was great to hear from their guest speakers and educators and to learn more about the services and support options available to people with permanent vision changes and their families.
