Saturday morning musings ✨

When I first made this wall hanging it was for no one and no reason, I just knew I needed to make it.. so it got added to my home collection, which I didn’t mind, cause she’s pretty cute right ? 😏

Last year after we moved to Darwin, my daughter Ryann was having a particularly hard time adjusting. She was riddled with separation anxiety around going to school, she didn’t want to do anything or go anywhere but be with me. It was very hard to watch as she had never been like that.

I understand, I have my own anxiety I deal with and I know how I feel and react when the big A-hole taps on my shoulder, but dealing with my daughters too, it’s a whole different beast.

I think Ryann is most like me in the sense of her personality, she reminds me a lot of me as a child. Whether or not that’s a good or bad thing for years to come, who knows! 😂 but I think I empathize with her reactions and feelings because I understand where her big feelings come from.

Sometimes, as I know myself, there’s no coming out of it. There’s nothing anyone can do or say. It’s just a time thing. So one day, I was sitting at home, I’d just got off the phone to my daughters teacher about her anxiety around school and coming to class, I looked up at this wall hanging and I remembered how much Ryann loves it.
*light bulb moment💡*

So the next day, we took it into her class and with her teachers permission, we found a spot to hang it right above a nice cosy quiet time area. So whenever Ryann was feeling anxious or sad, she could go sit in that little nook and feel closer to me and to home. Which was amazing.

I love how healing art can be. It helps me while I make it and helped my daughter after i was done. Which in turn helps me a little more because I can breathe easier knowing she feels a little at ease and I know she’s okay. ❤️

DID YOU KNOW THIS TOO?

I realised that I haven’t reintroduced myself for quite some time ! *gear up for a long one!*

So here goes ❤️ my name is Dakota, I am a mum of 4 beautiful children, I have a beautiful husband, I am a self taught fibre artist, and I started Tying the Knots back in 2019.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, when I started macrame, I was suffering from post partum depression and what my therapist and I later worked out, is that I am a lifelong sufferer of anxiety as well.

So Tying the Knots started as a way to help fund my love of macrame. Cause it’s an exy habit 🤣

I am a proud Gurindji/Warumungu woman and I’m also on a journey to learn more about my Aboriginal culture too. 🖤💛♥️

Since 2019, I’ve had a baby, moved house multiple times, gone through Covid in lockdown central Melbourne and eventually uplifted life and moved back to my hometown, Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia where my husband and I have also started another family business! I’ll touch on that another time 😂

Unfortunately, due to the crazy craziness of life, I’ve kind of neglected things here ! Which I am going to work at and come back stronger than ever!

So while I apologise for my inconsistency.. I’m not apologising for how much more of me you’re going to see, you’ll get sick of it! Haha but please don’t get sick of me cause that is also one of my mortal fears 🤣

This mirror looks like the sun, so I guess it’s just some wishful thinking for my day! It is pathetic and cold in Melbourne (shocker) ! So let’s radiate some impending summer vibes! 🌞😃🌞

Finishing and packing orders this week got me a little bit excited as my first Christmas ornaments of the silly season are making their way to their new Christmas tree homes! It makes the impending arrival of Christmas all the more real and so much more exciting !! 😃 🎄🎄

WHAT REMINDS YOU OF HOME?💕
I was asked to make this rainbow by a beautiful cousin and when she requested the colours, I was very unsure 🤣
I thought,
“I’m not a rainbow maker, how do I make those colours work?” 😳
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But once this guy started coming together, it really grew on me. 😍
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The colours remind me of the Northern Territory flag, which is my home state. It started to make me feel a little homesick! A lot of my family is still up there and this little rainbow gave me some big feelings. Maybe it was just pregnancy hormones, I dunno! 🤣

So I’d love to know, what reminds you of home?
For me, it’s salty plums, humid rain and the thick smell of the earth after a sensational monsoon♥️
Sometimes it can be the littlest things and can be triggered by all senses! (: x

'Twas NOT the night before Christmas... But all through the house, ALL the creatures were stirring, especially my toddler sized mouse... I call her Jordan.

My children - no - my girls are horrendous sleepers. We can probably count the number of full nights sleep we’ve had in the last 5 years on my hands and toes.. I tell people we live in a state of existential exhaustion. 😂🤣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mumming with 3 young children and businessing and growing a baby and pandemic-ing... has been a massive learning curve.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I like to be a “yes” girl & I definitely take on more than I should. Sometimes that is to the detriment of my mental health. But I’ve learnt a lot about my limits this year and I’m learning my boundaries, which I will be implementing a bit more in due time.

So I really appreciate your understanding during these changes and transitions that I will be implementing in the coming months, especially now that baby Blastoff is on the way (my son nicknamed the bub and it stuck) 😂❤️

I know I sell online, but I honestly never really feel comfortable buying online, I like to feel things in my hands and try before I buy. So the fact that buying online has been a lot of people’s lifeline this year, including mine (big time!) has been a little tough for me..

Trusting online businesses can be tough ! I try my best to be as transparent as possible and I think it’s to any businesses detriment if they don’t these days!

With how absolutely terrible 2020 has been, I’ve decided I’m going to set up Christmas a bit earlier this year as well 😊️ my husband is going to think I’m a crazy lady, but I’ve decided! &&& I’ve already told the kids we’ll be setting it all up - so there is no turning back now! 😂
