The Australian Government is developing two new guides as part of Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031.

The Department of Social Services is seeking feedback to make sure the guides meet the needs of people with disability.

The two guides aim to:
• make it easier for governments, businesses and the community to apply the Strategy’s Guiding Principles in their work.
• make sure people with disability are involved in evaluating policies, programs and services.

Consultation papers are available in Easy Read, Braille, Auslan and a range of languages other than English.

Submissions are open until 30 November 2022.

Australians affected by the devastating South-Eastern Australian floods can now access disaster assistance payments through Services Australia

The one-off, non-means tested Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is available to people in 5 Victorian LGAs and 3 Tasmanian LGAs.

Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) is available if you experience a loss of income because of floods. This 13-week taxable payment is also available to people in a number of Local Government Areas (LGAs) across Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales.

The easiest way to claim is online through myGov.

Another important milestone ticked off ✅

Today we announced an Independent Review into the NDIS – an election commitment to improve the wellbeing of Australians with disability and ensure the Scheme’s sustainability so that future generations receive the benefit of the NDIS.

The Independent Review Panel comprises of Co-Chairs Professor Bruce Bonyhady AM and Ms Lisa Paul AO PSM and Panel Members Mr Kevin C***s AM, Ms Judy Brewer AO, Dr Stephen King, Mr Dougie Herd and Ms Kirsten Deane OAM.

The NDIS Review will work with participants, their families and carers, as well as providers and workers to put people with disability back at the centre of the NDIS.

A final report, including opportunities for reform, will be delivered by the Panel to Disability Reform Ministers by no later than the end of October next year.

Thank you to all who have helped launch the Review – I’m really looking forward to the work ahead to make the NDIS the best it can be.
