Part 1: A big THANK YOU to City of Darwin staff for welcoming AccessiBelle, our amazing NT Deaf Community, and special guest Shalom Kaa into your workplace. 💛🤟

Over the past 10 weeks, AccessiBelle has been working alongside City of Darwin Council staff as they learned Auslan in a fun, engaging environment — filled with games, connection, and plenty of laughs… and absolutely no quarterly reports about potholes or chasing down those runaway trees from our wild wet season! 🌧️🌴😆

We’ve loved seeing your commitment to making the NT more inclusive, and we’re so proud of how far you’ve come. Keep those hands signing! 🤟🔥

Part 2 — Last Day Vibes 🎬💛🤟

Wrapping up 10 incredible weeks with City of Darwin staff! What a way to finish — full of laughter, connection, and putting those Auslan skills into action. 🙌

From first signs to confident conversations, it’s been amazing to watch the growth across the team.

Thank you again for your commitment to inclusion and for embracing the NT Deaf Community with open hands (literally 🤟).

From potholes to handshapes 😆🌴

City of Darwin staff learning Auslan with AccessiBelle, alongside the NT Deaf Community and special guest Shalom Kaa — building a more inclusive NT, one sign at a time. 💞🤟

💞 AUSLAN DAY 💞

Here’s a reality check…

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the NT has one of the lowest rates of Auslan usage in Australia — sitting at just 0.4% (the same as our other “Territory”, the ACT!).

Yep… let that sink in 👀

But here’s the thing —
that doesn’t mean we stay there.

It means there’s so much room to grow 💥

And honestly? We’re already seeing it happen:
✨ Workplaces learning Auslan
✨ More Deaf-led spaces
✨ Stronger community connections
✨ More awareness and visibility

This is how change starts — and we’re part of it 💛

Let’s keep building, keep signing, and keep showing up 🤟

Thank you Deaf Connect and Cara Cogo, for organising today’s Auslan Day tours at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory 💖

Today we celebrate marking the publication of the first Auslan (Australian Sign Language) dictionary in 1989 by Professor Trevor Johnston.

Here are the top suburbs in each state and territory with the highest % of people that use Auslan.

🌼🐰 Happy Easter from AccessiBelle! 🐣💛

A couple of weekends ago, our Deaf Youth got creative in the kitchen with Sticky Fingers Kitchen Cooking School with a special Easter Cooking Workshop — and the results were absolutely adorable and delicious! 🍰🌸

From mixing and decorating to lots of laughs and teamwork, it was a beautiful way to build skills, confidence, and connection within our little Deaf NT community.

Wishing everyone a safe, fun, and chocolate-filled Easter! 🍫✨

WE DID IT — 1 YEAR OF ACCESSIBELLE! 🎉💛

Okay yes… I may have missed the actual date (very NT time!)😅 but we’re celebrating anyway!!

What a ride it’s been — taking that leap into my own business was scary, challenging, and honestly one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made.

Over the past year, I’ve had the absolute privilege of supporting our Deaf and Hard of Hearing community here in the NT — through advocacy, Auslan Communication Support, community education, inclusive events, and 1:1 support 🙌

My heart is so full. This work means everything to me.

To all my amazing clients and stakeholders — THANK YOU for trusting me, supporting me, and being part of this journey 💛

And in this photo… one of my beautiful clients made this for me 🥹 THIS is why I love what I do!!

Here’s to year 2 and everything ahead — we’re just getting started! 🚀

Some serious bakers with our Deaf Youth last weekend! 🍰👩‍🍳👨‍🍳
Even with the wild weather rolling in 🍃💨⛈️, nothing stopped this amazing group!

So proud of everyone who got involved — lots of learning, laughs, and delicious creations. Nothing beats building skills, confidence, and a stronger community together 💛

Today’s Bunnings Garden Workshop was a great success! 🌿

Our Deaf community learned more about Epipremnum aureum — also known as Pothos or Devil’s Ivy — and how to care for our plants in a tropical climate like Darwin. One big lesson we discovered is that many of us tend to overwater our plants, which is often why they don’t survive!

A special shout-out to Kim from Bunnings Palmerston for making this event inclusive by organising Auslan communication support so everyone could fully participate. 🤟

Everyone also got to take home their freshly potted Pothos/Devil’s Ivy. Now the real challenge begins… let’s see whose plant survives the NT Wet and Dry seasons! 😄🌱
