✨Meet Ralph – Guest Bikram Yoga Teacher with a Powerful Story of Healing and Transformation

In May 2004, Ralph was diagnosed with Spasmodic Torticollis, a rare neurological disorder that caused his neck muscles to spasm uncontrollably. He describes those years as the lowest point in his life—his confidence shattered, self-esteem gone, and no sense of control over his body.

Everything began to shift in 2012 when he walked into Bikram Yoga Five Dock, just five minutes from home. “I was broken,” he says. “Physically, mentally, emotionally.”

The heat helped ease his physical pain—but it was the mental transformation that truly changed his life. He kept returning to the mat, rebuilding his confidence and strength. A quote from Bikram’s book gave him purpose: "Without the struggle, there is no discipline."

After two years of practice, his neurologist noticed real improvement—enough to cancel a scheduled surgery. Eventually, the same doctor who had been skeptical became a believer in the healing power of Bikram yoga.

In 2019, Ralph attended teacher training in Acapulco. Despite the emotional and social challenges, he stayed the full nine weeks—and was voted Valedictorian by his fellow trainees.

“Teach from your heart with love,” his trainer Manali told him—words he lives by in every class he teaches.

What a joy and honour it was to host the Australian Masters Games Yoga Sport Competition at BYC yesterday! 🧘‍♀️✨

A massive thank you to team FAYS .sports for bringing this beautiful event to life and bringing us together to celebrate yoga and community🙏💛

We’re beyond proud of our 9 amazing athletes—students and teachers—who took to the mat with passion, strength, and grace. Yes, there were medals 🏅 (woohoo!), but more than that, it was about growing together, showing up for ourselves and each other, and building something truly special as a team. 💪

We’re thrilled to share a couple of exciting events coming up in the next couple of months — opportunities to connect, support, and celebrate as a community!

🤸Australian Masters Games
🧘Yoga Asana Competition
🗓️Sat 18 Oct, 11am-3pm @ BYC
Yoga Sport is once again part of the Australian Masters Games, and we’re honoured to be the host venue for this year’s competition!

A group of our students and teachers will be stepping up to take part—not so much about the medals, but for growth, shared experience, and the joy of practice and community. It’s a chance to challenge ourselves, deepen our focus, and celebrate what we love about yoga in a unique format.

Come support your fellow yogis and soak in the energy of the day! Spectators are very welcome—events begin at 11am.

📝Note for Sat 18 Oct – 8am Class
With the Yoga Sport Competition taking place later in the day, our 8am class is expected to be full, as many of the athletes and participants will be attending to warm up and prepare.

If you're planning to join this class, we recommend booking your spot early to avoid missing out. And if you're happy to attend another class over the weekend instead, we’d be so grateful — it helps us accommodate visiting participants on the day.

Thanks as always for your understanding and support — it means a lot during events like this! 🙏
