TIPS FOR OVERCOME THE LIMITATIONS CAUSED BY HEARING LOSS

Communicating with people with hearing loss can be difficult and frustrating for BOTH sides of the conversation. Here we have provided some tips to help minimise the frustration.

TIPS FOR YOU
- - - - - - -
1. Let people know that your hearing isn't great and how they can help.
+ "Because of my hearing, it's difficult when there's more than one person speaking at a time"
+ "Make sure you get my attention, or I may miss what you're saying."
+ "I read lips, so can I face you?"
+ "I heard that you're away for the holidays, but missed where you're heading off to..."

2. Staying positive and friendly increases others' willingness to help. And when someone goes out of their way to help, be sure to show your appreciation.
+ "You're not speaking clearly enough" is better said "Sorry, I have trouble hearing. Could you speak up a little?"

3. Location. Location. Location.
+ "I don't hear well in background noise. Can we move over there?"
+ "Do you mind sitting on my right? That's my good ear."

4. Concentrate on the speaker and use visual cues such as facial expressions, body language and lip movement.

TIPS FOR THEM
- - - - - - -
1. Show your support by improving your knowledge about hearing loss and, if you're available, accompanying them to appointments.
2. Before starting what you have to say, get their attention.
3. Speak calmly and clearly. Shouting is never helpful.
4. Let them see your mouth. Face them and lower your hands, as they impede lip-reading.
5. Physical gestures help.
6. If you were not understood, say it a different way.

ENVIRONMENTAL TIPS
- - - - - - -
1. Turn off radio / television / stereo.
2. Move to a quieter location.
3. Reduce distance between you and the listener.
4. The speaker's face should be well lit.

How Do Hearing Aids Work?

Modern hearing aids include incredibly advanced technology to help people with hearing difficulties continue to interact with people, enjoy music, and connect with nature. Here's a snapshot of how they work:-

Amplification
Hearing aids pick up sound through a microphone, process it through a digital processor, and then amplify it through a speaker into the ear. As sound enters a hearing aid, it is broken into multiple frequency bands. Each band is then amplified by the amount necessary for each band.

Noise Management
Modern digital hearing aids recognise the difference between speech and background noise, along with other types of sounds that wearers want to always hear (e.g music, someone speaking, and birds singing). Emphasis is given to sounds we want to hear.

Bluetooth connectivity
In partnership with their smartphones, digital radio, televisions and personal devices (e.g. iPods, tablets, sound is streamed from external devices directly into the hearing aids in stereo and optimised for the wearers’ unique patterns of hearing loss.

Rechargeable
Rechargeable hearing aids remove the hassle of inserting and disposing of batteries.

FREE Demonstrations and 30-day Satisfaction Guarantees

You don't need to take our word for it, hear them for yourself. Following a Hearing Evaluation, we can fit you with modern devices that are suitable for your hearing needs, lifestyle, and budget and let you experience them with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee period. If, for whatever reason, they don’t work out, you can return them for a refund.

Don’t ignore hearing issues!

A Hearing Assessment and Consultation is straight-forward and pain-free. For information or to book an appointment:

Hundreds Of Our Clients Are Loving TeleHealth

Telehealth is a way of providing audiological services remotely using technology such as phone, video, or apps. Telehealth has many benefits for clients of HearCare, such as:

Remote counselling
You can receive professional advice and support from your Hearing Care Professional (HCP) without leaving your home. You can discuss your hearing needs, goals, and challenges and get personalised solutions and strategies. You can also ask any questions you have about your hearing aids or other devices and get tips on how to use them effectively.

Hearing aid adjustments
You can now have many modern hearing aids adjusted remotely by your HCP, using a compatible app on your smartphone or tablet. This means you can fine-tune your hearing aids to suit different listening environments and preferences, without having to visit the clinic. You can also send feedback to your HCP and receive updates and new settings.

No travel or parking
Telehealth saves you time and money by eliminating the need to travel to the clinic. You can avoid traffic, parking fees, and public transport hassles. And if you’re unwell, you can also reduce others exposure to your illness by staying at home.

Access from anywhere
Telehealth allows you to access audiological services from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection and a suitable device. This means you can stay in touch with your HCP even if you move, travel, or live in a remote or rural area.

Telehealth is a convenient, safe, and effective way to receive audiological care. It can improve your hearing outcomes and quality of life. To find out more about TeleHealth and how it can work for you, please contact us today.

Have You Worked In A Noisy Job That May Have Contributed To Hearing Loss?

“Yes”, well you could be eligible for cash compensation, digital hearing aids, and hearing services.

+ Cash Payout
+ Free hearing care and hearing aids
+ No upfront costs. No win, no fee

We can help!
Arrange an assessment at HearCare to learn if workplace noise contributed to your hearing loss. Following a hearing assessment, we may introduce you to lawyers who are experts in workers compensation claims and will maximise your chances of a successful claim.

“But I liked that job… they were always good to me.”
Most claims are covered by insurance, so why leave an insurance company with money that you're owed? Also remember, the long-term hearing damage you incurred was a cost of doing your job and is something you’re entitled to be compensated for.

Am I eligible?
Anyone who has suffered hearing loss due to exposure to loud noise at work may be eligible to apply for a Workers Compensation claim. This includes current and former workers, as well as retirees.

DON’T DELAY!
Don’t put of addressing hearing loss, as the sooner you restore sound the better your outcomes will be. You may be entitled to financial compensation for their hearing loss, as well as future medical expenses such as hearing aids, batteries, and servicing costs.

"Is It Worth The Effort?"
In a word, “YES”. Think about the future. A successful claim will put money in the bank now and unlock future access to free hearing care and hearing aids for the rest of your life.

What To Expect At Your First Appointment

If you’ve got your first appointment coming up, here are five things you can expect.

MEDICAL HISTORY
-------------------
We will ask about your health and your medical history. You may be asked about any allergies, medical procedures you’ve had in the past, or any medication you take. It’s important that your Hearing Care Professional has access to this information to ensure that they can provide care that is tailored to your needs.

YOUR HEARING HISTORY
-------------------
Your Hearing Care Professional will ask you some questions to find out more about your hearing, such as times when you find it more difficult to hear than others or if there are specific sounds, such as high-pitched noises, that you struggle with more than others.

OTOSCOPIC INSPECTION
------------------
We'll peer inside the ear canal to look for issues that may be hampering your ability to hear, such as earwax or infection. If impacted earwax is found, we’ll suggest its removal using microsuction before proceeding.

HEARING TESTS
-------------------
We'll then perform some tests, usually in a soundproof booth. You will be played a spectrum of noises and tones and asked to respond if you can hear them. We will adjust the volume, tone, and pitch to gather more information about your hearing capabilities and pinpoint specific issues. You may also be asked to listen to and respond to speech sounds.

RESULTS DISCUSSION
-------------------
When you’ve finished your tests, we will discuss the findings with you and, if necessary, treatment options.
