Play Therapy by the Bay Kim has specialised in Learn to Play, Humanistic Play Therapy and Filial Therapy. Play Therapy is a researched and proven form of counselling.

Play Therapy by the Bay, based in the heart of Drysdale, is owned and run by Registered Child Play Therapist Kim Logan. With a degree in Nursing and a postgraduate diploma in Midwifery, Kim brings over 20 years experience working in Special Care Nurseries, the paediatric cardiac/renal unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital and time in a paediatric surgical unit. Kim has completed the Masters in Child Play Therapy and is trained in Learn to Play, Humanistic Play Therapy and Filial Therapy. It is a way to help children communicate their thoughts, feelings and needs through play. Play Therapy gives children the opportunity to express inner thoughts, feelings, experiences and concerns as they use a more natural form of communication, play. Kim’s vast experience has led her to working with families and children in supporting them to connect with each other, understand neurodiversity, heal from trauma, and grow and develop their play skills including enhancing social and emotional development. Kim is interested in learning and understanding how individual children perceive their world and provides a safe, calm and inviting environment for children to explore their thoughts and emotions through play. Kim is a mother of two boys and brings her own experiences of parenting to her play therapy role.

🚫 Myth: There's a common misconception that therapy is solely for children facing significant challenges or labelled as "troubled." The reality is far from this belief.

💡 Fact: All children, regardless of their outward behaviour or perceived level of distress, can benefit immensely from therapy. It's not about labelling or stigmatising; instead, it's a proactive and positive approach to promoting overall well-being.

By debunking the myth that only "troubled" kids need therapy, we shift the narrative to emphasise the universal benefits of Child Therapy. Let's create a culture that encourages all children to thrive emotionally, mentally, and socially.

As a child play therapist, I've witnessed the incredible power of play in aiding children's recovery from trauma.

Play provides a safe outlet for children to express their feelings, fears, and experiences in a non-threatening way. Through toys, games, and creative activities, they can communicate and process emotions that might be challenging to verbalise.

Every child's healing journey is unique, and play therapy offers a personalised approach to address their specific needs. If you know a child who has experienced trauma, consider the transformative impact of play therapy in their healing process.
