🌿 Service Update - New Light Disability & Counselling Services 🌿

To our wonderful participants, families, and community,

Due to ongoing non-payments and the impact this has had on staff wellbeing and burnout, we have made some important changes to ensure our services remain sustainable and that our team is supported.

🚫 Cleaning Services
We have made the difficult decision to remove regular cleaning services from New Light Disability & Counselling Services moving forward.

We are no longer accepting new cleaning clients or bookings.

A small number of existing cleaning participants may still be supported on a casual or occasional basis, depending on availability.

💬 Counselling & Youth Mentoring Sessions
Due to regular repeat non-payments, all counselling and youth mentoring sessions will now move to a pre-paid booking system. This helps ensure appointments are respected and allows us to continue offering consistent, high-quality support.

🌿 Current Capacity
We are currently fully booked until approximately mid to late April while we work through existing supports and scheduled services.

✅ casual weekday/Weekend Support Availability
There may be limited support worker availability for participants who require assistance. (Pending Day/times needed)

Thank you to our amazing community for your understanding and continued support as we make these changes to protect both our participants and our team. 💙

Restriction of freedom is abuse — even when it’s subtle.
This is where someone slowly takes away your independence until your world becomes smaller and smaller.

This can look like:
• controlling who you see and talk to
• isolating you from family and friends
• getting angry when you make plans without them
• demanding to know where you are at all times
• checking your phone, messages, or social media
• monitoring your location
• pressuring you to stay home
• making you feel guilty for leaving the house
• controlling your clothing or appearance
It often starts as “protectiveness” or jealousy…
but over time it becomes control and isolation.

💛 Healthy love encourages your world to grow.
Abuse makes your world shrink.

Abuse of authority is when one person positions themselves as “the boss” in the relationship.

It creates a power imbalance where your voice, choices, and autonomy are dismissed.
This can look like:
• making all the decisions
• treating you like a child
• speaking over you, shutting you down, or controlling conversations
• acting like they’re always right
• blaming you while denying their own behaviour
• using intimidation or “I’m in charge” energy
• controlling finances, rules, parenting, or the household

A key sign is when your needs are repeatedly ignored, and your opinion is treated as irrelevant.

💛 You are not in a relationship to be managed.
You are in a relationship to be respected.

Emotional abuse is about control through guilt, fear, shame, or emotional punishment.
It often leaves no visible marks - but it can cause deep anxiety, depression, loss of identity, and trauma symptoms.

Emotional abuse can look like:
• constant criticism
• blaming you for everything
• “punishing” you with silence or withdrawal
• making you feel guilty for having needs
• acting like you’re the problem every time you raise a concern
• using your trauma, mental health, parenting, or past against you
• making you feel responsible for their moods
A common pattern is:
They hurt you → you react → they focus on your reaction and ignore their behaviour.

💛 Emotional abuse often makes you question your worth.
But the truth is: you are not too much. You are not the problem.

01/03/2026

Verbal abuse is not “just words.”
It is one of the most common and damaging forms of domestic abuse - because it slowly breaks a person down from the inside.

Verbal abuse can include:
• name calling, swearing, mocking, belittling
• humiliating you in front of others
• yelling to intimidate or silence you
• sarcastic cruelty disguised as “jokes”
• telling you you’re useless, crazy, stupid, lazy
• making you feel like you can’t do anything right
A big red flag is when the person says:
“You’re too sensitive.”
“I was only joking.”
“You made me say it.”

Verbal abuse trains your brain to believe you are the problem - and that can keep people trapped for years.

💛 Respectful love does not degrade.
Healthy conflict doesn’t involve cruelty.

28/02/2026

Physical abuse isn’t always what people picture.

It’s not only punching or “serious injuries.” Physical abuse can include any act of physical force used to scare, hurt, restrain, or control someone.

This can look like:
• pushing, shoving, grabbing, pinning you down
• blocking doorways so you can’t leave
• throwing objects near you (even if they “didn’t hit you”)
• pulling hair, twisting arms, squeezing too hard
• restraining you during an argument
• damaging the home or smashing things while you’re present

Sometimes physical abuse doesn’t leave bruises - but it leaves fear, hypervigilance, and a nervous system stuck in survival mode.

💛 If you’ve ever found yourself walking on eggshells, trying not to “set them off,” or feeling unsafe in your own home… it matters.
You deserve safety. Always.

✨ Before sleep…
Place your hand on your chest and say:

“I am safe in this moment.”
“I did the best I could today.”
“Tomorrow is a new day.”

Goodnight 💛
