Does “taking a deep breath” ever make you feel like you’re gasping for air? You aren’t doing it wrong—your nervous system is simply communicating its limits. 🌊
At Nalu, we believe in physiology before technique. If your CO_2 tolerance is low, forcing a slow tempo feels like a threat to your brainstem.
The key isn’t to breathe harder, but to breathe safer.

🧠did you know your brain uses CO_2 as survival data.
🧠When we force slow, deep breaths, CO_2 levels rise.
The Conflict: 😖
If your system isn’t used to that rise, your brain interprets it as “suffocation” rather than “relaxation.”
The Result: 🔬
Your heart rate spikes, urgency rises, and “air hunger” sets in. You aren’t failing at breathing; your biology is just trying to protect you. ❤️‍🩹
