Men's Circle Epping

Men's Circle Epping Serving the men of the Whittlesea through community, connection and compassion If they want practical problem solving, we are ready for that.

Australia is one of the world’s healthiest societies, yet men of all backgrounds are less likely to live healthy lives and die six years younger than women on average. International best practice tells us that one of the key ways to improve men’s access to healthcare is by developing male-friendly services. We create space for men to talk about the things that could lead to meaningful opportunities for connections with culture and community. We want to move from one dominant worldview to a multicultural system that embraces many world-views by supporting men, young people, those from diverse backgrounds and other to help them overcome their challenges. Many men’s gender socialisation instils within them the belief that in seeking help they are somehow giving up or showing weakness – but we focus on amplifying men’s strengths in seeking help and use these strengths so that everyone is equipped to better identify and intervene in men’s distress in a way that leverages masculinity to everybody’s advantage. For example, rather than assuming men want practical tips and solution-focused therapy because 'men are practical' – we try to be prepared to meet men on their level. But on the other hand, if they just want to talk and feel heard, we are also prepared to do that in a way that validates their experiences while acknowledging that masculine ideals undoubtedly makes many men feel uncomfortable with simply wanting to talk! As we take this no one-size-fits-all approach we hope to continuously learn from our conversations that will help us collaboarate with the council, local primary health networks and local businesses to change the ways we offer help to support men to adapt to circumstances.

Have you experienced a connection that made a difference in your life?

The heartwarming story of Juan Salvador, a penguin, reminds us of the transformative power of connection. In "The Penguin Lessons," Michell (Steve Coogan) learns that relationships—whether with humans or animals—can bring healing and inspire growth. Through kindness and listening, a penguin helps Michell process past trauma, bond with others, and rekindle hope.
As men, we often carry emotional burdens quietly. Let’s reflect on how moments of connection, even the unexpected ones, can open the door to vulnerability, strength, and greater understanding.

The comedy, about a curmudgeon played by Steve Coogan and his waddling new friend, joins a subgenre of movies from King Kong to John Wick – in which men are emotionally and socially rescued by animals
