* Resilience: What Olympians Can Teach Us About Disappointment *

For those of us watching top athletes cope with disappointment amongst the excitement and achievements of the Winter Olympics in Italy currently, we are also witnessing recurring displays of resilience that is both 'learnt' and 'built'.

For the athletes at this top level of their game, learning to cope with a loss of their dream is a part of their training, as well as the opportunity to grow in their sport and life, as a whole. We see here The Resilience Doughnut in full action as a 'doing word':

"While being naturally optimistic or conscientious helps, researchers say that to some extent, resilience can be learned. What we might perceive as mental Teflon in top athletes is also the result of a lifetime of practice."

The sense of 'grit' as a individual and the feeling of 'connection' around them is not just by chance - it has been learnt and built, to achieve a sense of purpose beyond the loss of a medal, when they experience the feeling of not achieving their personal best.

* Parenting & Resilience *

When we think about parenting about building the resilience of a child, we see that our model of resilience - The Resilience Doughnut - supports a parent to use a child's already existing strengths and networks to start off ...

We are not having to start from scratch, but rather we are looking to identify 'what works well' in the life of the child already and this becomes our foundation to start from, when it comes to building their resilience.

So exactly how does our model of resilience - The Resilience Doughnut - support parents in their parenting?

* Resilience is a PROCESS, a VERB, a DOING word *

When we talk about resilience, we think of it as a verb; a process that is able to be taught and learnt, continuously over time.

Using our model of 'The Resilience Doughnut', we teach people how to build their resilience through a process and as a result, they learn how to combine their strengths to survive (and thrive) through challenge and adversity that is inevitable in life.

Watch this space for more information coming your way about how we use 'The Resilience Doughnut' to build resilience.
