To all the new mums and mums-to-be out there... let's talk about breastfeeding.

In those quiet, late-night feeds, it can feel like you and your baby are the only people in the world. It's a beautiful, powerful thing. And sometimes, it's also really, really hard.

If it feels challenging, please know: you are not doing it wrong. From latch struggles to soreness and sheer exhaustion, so many of us have been there. It's a learning journey for both you and your baby, and every small victory is worth celebrating.

A few gentle reminders for you:

🍃 Comfort is key: Prop yourself up with pillows. Have water and snacks within reach. Get comfortable before you even start.

🍃 It's okay to ask for help: A good latch shouldn't be painful. If something feels wrong, reach out to your Obstetrician or your maternal health nurse.

🍃 Fed is best: However you choose to feed your baby - exclusively breastfeeding, combination feeding, or formula - what matters most is that your little one is fed and loved, and that you are okay.

You are learning, and you are doing an incredible job.

MEET THE TEAM | Meet Dr Fiona Cowell – a dedicated obstetrician and fertility specialist at Sage, delivering at St Vincent’s Private and Epworth Freemasons. She’s passionate about supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and the fertility journey, always with compassion and care.

Fiona also works with Monash IVF, helps with egg freezing, and holds a Masters in Reproductive Medicine. She’s all about giving parents choice and confidence during such a special time.

When she’s not caring for patients or teaching med students, you’ll find her swimming in the bay, sailing, or wrangling her busy household of teens, pets, and chooks!
