Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and we're celebrating Jules, Manager Quality and Accreditation. 🫶

Jules spoke to us about her love for science and how it underpins her work everyday.

In her role, Jules spends her days uncovering the stories behind our data. Every dataset, every trend, every graph is an opportunity to understand how we’re performing and where we can improve. She often describes her work as “telling a story with numbers” - a blend of analytical thinking and communication that supports our organisation to make informed decisions. It’s science in a form that’s practical, applied, and connected to the quality of care we deliver.

Thank you for sharing your passion for science with us Jules! 💗

In 2018, Tania delayed booking her BreastScreen appointment.

Tania says, “when I received my breast screen reminder in 2018, life was busy with work, family, and everything in between. I kept putting off making the appointment. There was even a little voice in my head saying, you don’t need to go- you’ve already had kidney cancer.”

“What I am forever grateful for is BreastScreen Victoria's persistence. The follow-up texts, emails and letters kept coming and eventually, I listened. I booked the mammogram, a decision that quite literally changed my life.”

Eight years on, Tania is enjoying life with family and friends. 💗

If you’re aged 50–74 with no breast symptoms, book your free breast screen today. Call 13 20 50 or click the link below.

Last month our mobile van visited the Dame Phyllis Frost (DPFC) correctional centre.

The visit was organised in partnership with Western Health, to give women in custody the opportunity to prioritise their health with free breast screens.

Krithika Kumar from Western Health explains: “Women often aren’t in circumstances to prioritise their health in community. Being at DPFC provides them with the opportunity to have important health checks."

About BreastScreen Victoria

BreastScreen Victoria aims to reduce the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis ensuring you have the best health outcome through early detection. We aim to provide free mammograms to 70% of women aged 50−74 every two years, as they are the group most at risk of developing the disease. However, all eligible Victorians 40+ are eligible to attend.

BreastScreen Victoria is made up three components:

  • BreastScreen coordination unit (BCU). The BCU is responsible for administering the funding for screening, reading and assessment services. It is also the central hub for all information, appointment services, communications, recruitment, MSS coordination, and monitoring service levels to implement quality improvements.

  • Screening service providers. With 42 permanent screening clinics across Victoria, and 25 sites that are visited every two years by the mobile screening service (MSS), we strive for equality of access for all eligible Victorians.
