Eggcellent Scrambled Eggs 🍳
Being able to prepare food is such an important part of everyday life — whether it’s for nourishment, enjoyment, entertainment, or providing for someone you care about.

At Will & Way, we love supporting people to build confidence in the kitchen so they can cook in a way that feels good, doable, and meaningful to them.

Today’s focus: one-handed scrambled eggs!

One of the key skills is learning to break an egg using one hand. To make this easier, reduce waste, and avoid a whole lot of messy trial-and-error, we started with two ping‑pong balls and a coin to practise the “crack and pull apart” movement before transferring it to a real egg.

As you can see here, he’s making great progress and is well on his way to cracking eggs independently.

There are one‑handed egg‑cracking aids available, and they can be really helpful. But before jumping straight to equipment, we always explore whether the movement can be learned safely and comfortably without aids. Sometimes a simple strategy and a bit of practice is all that’s needed.

Here are some of the other tools supporting this goal:
✅ Non-slip mat – keeps the mixing bowl steady while whisking and helps secure bottles and containers for easier opening
✅ Easy-open salt container – for adding a pinch of seasoning
✅ Pan/pot holder – stabilises the pan during cooking
✅ Butter board – makes one‑handed toast prep easier
✅ Suction dish brush – supports one‑handed clean-up

Small strategies, practical tools, supported, graded practice and meaningful goals — that’s how confidence in the kitchen grows!

So… what actually happens when you match someone with the right seating + positioning setup?
Spoiler: a lot more than you might think.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been capturing some of the small but really significant ways the right wheelchair setup can support people to do what matters to them.

Things like:
✔️ Reaching into the fridge to grab ingredients for a meal
✔️ Picking up a script at the local pharmacy (and actually being able to see over the counter)
✔️ Enjoying a drink at the pub
✔️ Practicing making baskets on the basketball court
✔️ Having the postural support needed to use eye gaze communication
✔️ Expressing personal style, like rolling with a hot pink wheelchair frame that absolutely pops

Our Complex Seating, Pressure Management and 24-Hour Positioning team spend a lot of time behind the scenes assessing, measuring, adjusting angles, trialling equipment, collaborating with suppliers and, most importantly, listening to what each person needs.

Every time we help someone find the right seating and positioning setup, we’re reminded how much the little things matter.

Comfort, safety, independence—these aren’t luxuries, they’re essentials for living well.

Without the right support, people can face real challenges:

• Reduced movement

That’s why our Complex Seating, Pressure Management & 24-Hour Positioning team exists. Led by Claire and Louise—two clinicians with decades of experience, countless hours of advanced training, strong relationships with local equipment suppliers and a genuine passion for getting it right. They make sure every client gets the best possible outcome.

They also mentor, share knowledge, and help other team members grow in this complex area of practice.

We’re excited to share more about this work and the impact it has. Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we share some of the incredible work happening behind the scenes.

🎄✨ Sleighin’ It This Christmas! ✨🎄

The Will & Way OT elves, Santa Sam, and our reindeer office pups are ready to take some time off to recharge and enjoy the holiday season. Shout out to Ella for creating this festive masterpiece!

Holiday Closure Notice:

With the silly season ramping up, we hit pause on the hustle to connect, laugh, and celebrate.

Our day was packed with:

🔫 An intense Laser Quest showdown (no mercy given!)
🎮 Arcade battles showing off hidden talents and deep competitive streaks
🍸 Cocktails and antipasto platters to top it all off at 18th Amendment

Sometimes the best way to recharge is to embrace your inner child—let go, laugh hard, and play like no one’s watching. Here’s to finishing the year strong and having a blast along the way! Let the Christmas countdown begin 🗓️

Today’s mission: sewing. 🧵
When arthritis made using scissors painful, we explored creative strategies and tools to keep the joy alive.

Occupational Therapy in Action 💥
 What a day! Action-packed from start to finish with our dream team of OT legends.

We kicked things off with a picnic lunch and the best pork rolls in town (big love to V N Rolls Newcomb 🥖), then launched into our very own OT Amazing Race: a whirlwind of sensory challenges, OT trivia, and creative problem-solving, with more than a sprinkle of friendly competition.

After working up another appetite, we celebrated Sophie’s birthday with cake 🎂 and tuned into a fantastic presentation by Maddy, who shared her wisdom and practical tips from years of delivering OT supports via telehealth.

We wrapped up the day with one of our favourite Will & Way traditions: showering our beautiful new mums with a team-prepared food package 🧺💕

This day was such a brilliant reflection of what makes our team so special. The fun and silliness (we don’t take ourselves too seriously), the willingness to dive in and give things a go (this is not a team that sits on the sidelines!), the genuine care we have for one another, and the creativity and adaptability that shines through in everything we do — all underpinned by a shared commitment to learning, growing, and showing up each day with purpose and pride in our work as OTs.

OTs are a special kind of people, and we feel so lucky to be surrounded by some of the very best.
