🔥 Extreme Heat Across South Australia – Stay Safe 🔥

It’s very hot across SA at the moment, and extreme heat can affect your health quickly.

Simple ways to stay safe:

💧 Drink water regularly (don’t wait until you’re thirsty)

🏠 Stay indoors or in the shade where possible

🧢 Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day

👶 Check on children and older people

🤝 Check on neighbours, especially those living alone

🐾 Keep pets cool with shade, fresh water and cool surfaces

Watch for warning signs of heat illness:

Dizziness or headache

Nausea or vomiting

Muscle cramps

Confusion or fainting

If symptoms don’t improve, or someone becomes confused, collapses, or is hard to wake:

📞 Call 000 immediately

Even after the temperature drops, keep hydrating and take it easy — heat-related illness can continue after exposure.

Stay safe, SA 💚

A heatwave is on its way, stay cool and safe 😎

🌡️ Did you know? Heatwaves have been responsible for more deaths in Australia than any other natural disaster.

While many of us manage the heat just fine, it's important to look out for those more at risk—babies, young children, older adults, and anyone with existing medical conditions. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and check in on those who might need a little extra care!

The holidays are often described as a time of connection.

For many people, they are.
For others, this time of year can bring mixed feelings — loneliness, exhaustion, old memories, or the pressure to keep everything together.

Mental health support over the holidays isn’t about fixing things or having the right words.
It’s about staying connected, noticing changes, and making it easier to reach out — at work, at home, and in our communities.

Sometimes that looks like:

- checking in with someone who’s gone quiet

- making space for conversation without pushing

- knowing where support is available if it’s needed

If you or someone you care about needs support in South Australia, these services are available:

• Lifeline – 13 11 14
• Beyond Blue – 1300 22 4636
• Su***de Call Back Service – 1300 659 467
• Mental Health Triage (SA) – 13 14 65 (24/7)
• Headspace (young people)

If someone is in immediate danger, call 000.

Staying connected doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly.
It just means making space for people — including yourself — during a season that can feel full in many different ways.

During holidays, routines change.

More people around.
More food.
More travel.
More kids underfoot.

And while no one wants to think about emergencies during the festive season, a little preparation at home goes a long way.

Here are six essential first aid things every family should know:

1. CPR basics
You don’t need to be perfect — but knowing when to start, how hard and how fast to push, and when to use an AED can make all the difference.

2. Choking response (especially for kids)
Holiday food, distractions and little hands don’t always mix well. Knowing how to respond quickly matters.

3. Burns first aid
Hot ovens, barbecues, kettles and campfires are everywhere this time of year. Cool running water. Early action. No home remedies.

4. Anaphylaxis awareness
Food sharing increases at Christmas. Know the signs, know where EpiPens are kept, and don’t delay calling for help.

5. Bleeding control
Sharp knives, broken glass and outdoor activities can lead to injuries. Direct pressure and calm action are key.

6. Knowing when to call for help
Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, call Triple Zero early.

First aid isn’t about being an expert.
It’s about being prepared enough to act until help arrives.

🐍 Snakes are already active across SA — and the numbers are rising.

SA Ambulance Service treated 91 snake-bite patients last year, the highest number in five years. With the warm weather kicking in, snakes are now showing up across the Plains, the Hills and even suburban backyards.

Fake blood? Fun.
Real blood? Time to act. 👻

Halloween’s the one night we don’t mind a bit of fake blood — but when it’s real, knowing what to do matters.

🩹 Apply firm, direct pressure to the wound.
⬆️ If possible, raise the injured area above the heart.
🚑 Keep pressure until the bleeding stops or help arrives.
It’s simple, calm action that can save a life — no magic potion required.

Because confidence in first aid isn’t scary… it’s strength. 💚
