Leaving small, light or hand carry items inside the car is one common mistake most of us do while driving. Little did we know that these small items can impact up to 20x the force of gravity on a sudden stop or crash. According to https://www.nrspp.org.au/ , citing an example that 1 liter water bottle has a force of a 20kg object.
Please know that the worst ways to carry items in your car are;
- to be carried by a passenger
- to have them on your lap
- to leave them on the passenger seats or in the passenger footwell
- leave them on the parcel shelf.
Here are some recommendations (source: https://www.nrspp.org.au/)
- invest in a cargo barrier and high quality nets or tie down straps
- store small items in the glove box or centre console
- utilize the pocket behind the driver or passenger's seat
- consider installing a barrier at the open boot space
