So happy the rain stopped for a majority of the day πŸ™Œ it was nice to be able to feed this afternoon and not get drenched. The creek that turned into a raging river didn't come over the banks, just lapped at the sides πŸ™ So grateful, as my other paddock was and still is underwater. I hope everyone's horses are safe and well and the clean up of paddocks isn't too bad.
Mine have some swelling with their back legs, couldn't get any tuff rock today. Hopefully can pick some up tomorrow 🀞
Bloody Alfred, you certainly made a shocking mess 😌

After having a gastroscope on friday morning Tiki has grade 3 squamous ulcers, some old scarring and inflammation.. 4 is the worst!!! Amazing to watch a camera lurking around in the stomach looking and listening to the the explanation of what's happening in there πŸ™Œ
The horses stomach has two parts. An upper squamous part (white) and a lower glandular part (red) Gastroscopy is the only definitive way to diagnose ulcers and to also monitor the effectiveness of any treatment or prevention programs.
Tiki is on Ulcershield once a day and Sucralfate twice a day for the next 21 days.
Omeprazole is the drug of choice recommended and prescribed by vets for treatment and prevention of squasmous gastric ulcers. Omeprazole should be given on a relatively empty stomach and a minimum of 30 minutes before feeding. The sulcrafate powder is added to her feed twice a day. Sulcrafate coats the ulcer bed, basically forming a *biological bandage *
Acid splash is the most common cause of squamous gastric ulcers.
Feeding Lucerne hay before riding has been recommended to prevent acid splash. The food/hay forms a *fibre sponge* ball which absorbs the gastric acid and also provides a physical barrier to the acid splash.
Happy to know what's going on and to have some answers. Moving forward to make her as comfortable and happy as possible, hopefully getting rid of them... time and treatment will tell🀞
Plenty of paddock time, less grain and adding speedibeet or fibrebeet to her diet as they both contain pectin. Their is evidence the pectin content of sugar beet can possibly have an action similar to mucous.

Your horse does not necessarily have to show all these signs to have ulcers. Many times it's just a few subtle changes, just letting you know something is not quite right. Investigate and keep going till you find the solution.
✨️Tiki, my grey Arab is having a sleepover tonight, ready for her gastroscope tomorrow morning.
The most sweetest girl in the world 🌎 turned a little feral and rather unhappy in the past few weeks.. Hopefully we get some answers moving forward πŸ™Œ
