Our amazing and practice manager enjoyed a working lunch today as they finished up in clinic for the year.

We are so grateful to all of our wonderful staff and practitioners for the services and support they provide to our clients and one another — we couldn’t do what we do without each and every one of you!

And, to our incredible patients — thank you for choosing our clinic to support you on your healing journeys. It has been a pleasure to work with you all.

We wish everyone in our community a wonderful holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Neurofeedback works through the same learning process that shapes everyday behaviour: operant conditioning.

Instead of “forcing” the brain to change, neurofeedback provides precise, contingent feedback when the brain moves into a desired state — for example, sustaining SMR, regulating alpha/theta balance, or stabilising mid-beta.

When the brain receives immediate feedback (a tone, animation, or visual cue) at the exact moment it reaches a target pattern, it learns to return to that state more easily. This is reinforcement — the foundation of effective neurofeedback.

Good neurofeedback relies on three things:
✔ Contingency: feedback must match the brain signal instantly
✔ Contiguity: minimal delay
✔ Schedule: enough reinforcement to guide learning without habituation

These principles are part of applied neuroscience, not guesswork — and they’re key to helping clients generalise these states into everyday life.

🔗 Want to understand these mechanisms at a professional level? Operant conditioning, learning theory and clinical applications are all covered in ANFI’s Neurofeedback in Clinical Practice course.

✨ What a beautiful night of learning + connection!
Last week, our Connections team had the joy of speaking at DISTRACTD, a Gold Coast organisation doing incredible work in the ADHD and neurodiversity space.

The event brought together so many passionate specialists, all exploring the mind–body connection through a neurodivergent lens — from stress load in ADHD brains to the nervous system, chronic health links, emotional wellbeing, and practical ways to build resilience.

We’re so proud of our team who shared their wisdom with heart:
✨ Sunelle — Clinical Social Worker & Neurofeedback Clinician
✨ Melissa Tait — Credentialled Diabetes Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist & Sandtray Therapist
✨ Angelique Young — Clinical Naturopath

A huge thank you to DISTRACTD for creating such a supportive, empowering space. Nights like this remind us why holistic, integrated care matters so much ✨

Tuning In: ADHD, Stress & the Hidden Story Your Body is Telling

This month at DISTRACTD, we’re diving into a topic so many of us live with every single day — stress. Not the vague, fluffy kind. The deep, real, body-level stress that ADHD brains often carry without even realising it.
On Wednesday night, we’re joined by an incredible lineup:
Sunelle and her neurofeedback team
Dr Chris Stapelberg, psychiatrist and expert in the mind–body connection
Together, we’ll explore:
Why ADHD brains can have a higher stress load
How stress shapes mental health, emotions, and behaviour
The surprising links to physical health, including chronic illness
What’s actually happening in the nervous system — and how to support it
Practical approaches to managing stress and rebuilding resilience
If you’ve ever wondered “Is it just me, or is this stress different?” — this session is for you.
We’ll begin with the neurofeedback team, move into Dr Chris’s powerful deep dive into biology and behaviour, then head into a Q&A.
This is one of our most important topics of the year — and one that so many in our community feel deeply.
We can’t wait to see you there.

So proud of our amazing, diverse team!!

Meet Melissa Tait— Credentialled Diabetes Educator, Registered Clinical Nurse Specialist and Sandtray Therapist with over 18 years of experience supporting individuals with chronic health conditions.
At this month’s DISTRACTD session, Melissa will explore the mind–body connection in a way many ADHDers rarely hear explained — how stress, overwhelm, and emotional load can influence blood sugar, energy, fatigue, and diabetes management.
She brings a neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed lens to chronic health, helping people understand why their body reacts the way it does, and how regulation, compassion and support can make a real difference.
Melissa’s talk connects ADHD, stress physiology, and long-term wellbeing in a way that’s clear, grounded, and incredibly helpful for both ADHDers and the people who support them.

Angelique brings a warm, practical approach to understanding the mind–body connection in ADHD. With a background in biomedical science, herbal medicine, nutrition and integrative health, she supports people in regulating stress, balancing nervous system responses, and understanding how lifestyle factors influence mood, focus and emotional wellbeing.
At this month’s session, Angie will explore:
Why ADHD stress shows up in the body
How nutrition & lifestyle impact emotional regulation
Practical ways to support the nervous system
Everyday tools for calm, clarity and resilience
Angie works with individuals of all ages, combining evidence-based care with a compassionate, whole-person approach.

The Connections team are at the Hota tomorrow night talking all things ADHD!!

Sunelle will introduce how ADHD shows up in the brain and nervous system through brainwave patterns, stress circuitry, and emotional regulation. Her segment explains:
what brainwaves reveal about ADHD
how stress affects neural activity and behaviour
why ADHDers often live in “high alert” nervous system states
how neurofeedback helps support regulation
