Ben and Dave travelled from Australia to San Francisco to attend the International Protective Security Board (IPSB) Close Protection Conference, representing Panoptic Solutions alongside Simon Golby.

The conference provided valuable opportunities for professional exchange and industry discussion, with one of the standout moments being a session that returned the focus to the fundamentals of close protection — anti-assassination, purpose, and why the role exists.

Following IPSB, the trip continued to New York with a visit to NYPD Headquarters, including time with the NYPD Close Protection team and a tour of the Hall of Heroes and Historic Patrol Car Museum.

A valuable reminder that while the industry evolves, strong fundamentals remain constant.

Insurance, Indemnity & Incidents | The Part of EP No One Likes Talking About

In dignitary protection, you operate with sovereign authority.
In executive protection, the responsibility sits squarely with you — through contracts, indemnities, insurers, and sometimes the courtroom.

Every decision has an outcome.
That outcome often ends up with an insurer, an investigator, or a coroner reviewing your actions long after the job is done.

That’s why professional EP operators plan to be audited.
Take notes. Use the 5W + H — who, what, when, where, why, how.
Document the incident. Secure the records. Prepare for after-action reviews.

Technology will change. AI will advance.
But responsibility never leaves the operator — whether you carry a badge or a business card.

Do the job properly. Follow through after the incident.
Badges vs Business Cards. Same craft. Different liability.

Something’s brewing online.

NSW Police have flagged multiple planned & potentially unauthorised gatherings being promoted on social media in the wake of the Bondi terror attack — and they’re urging people to think twice before showing up.

The “peaceful protest” storyline can shift fast — not because of the crowd you expect, but because of the ones who love a crowd.

Police have also made it clear there’ll be a significant operational response to any large-scale gathering, with a focus on preventing escalation, intimidation, or violence.

If you’re in or around Bondi, keep your head on a swivel. Not every public gathering is what it claims to be.

At approx 1745 h 18 Dec 25, the NSW Police’s Tactical Operations conducted two arrest operations in Liverpool, Sydney, NSW, resulting in seven total arrests. The first operation occurred at the intersection of George St and Campbell St and consisted of police ramming a single vehicle (Vehicle-1) and detaining five men, with one sustaining head injuries. The second operation occurred at the Laurantus Serviceway and consisted of two police cars boxing in a single vehicle (Vehicle-2) and detaining two men.

On 14 December, a complex Active Shooter and IED-coordinated Terrorist attack was carried out at Bondi Beach, Sydney.

The two identified attackers carried out a targeted attack on an unarmed and peaceful high-density Jewish gathering in public for a religious celebration (Hanukkah event) attended by over 1,000 people.

The attackers exited their vehicle and opened fire while advancing on foot towards the event based on Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia.

Police engaged within minutes, fatally shooting Sajid Akram (50) and critically wounding Naveed Akram (24), bringing the incident to an end.

The attack resulted in 15 fatalities and multiple injuries, underscoring the speed, mobility, and impact of coordinated urban attacks in crowded public settings.

This infographic provides a structured breakdown of the Bondi Beach Terror Timeline, illustrating how rapidly radicalisation can escalate to planned and executed violence and the critical importance of early detection, situational awareness, and response timing in mitigating harm.

UPDATE: Bondi Beach Mass Casualty Incident – Initial Open-Source Intelligence Summary (15 Dec 2025)

Earlier today, a mass casualty shooting occurred at Bondi Beach during a Chanukah event. This post summarises verified information available as of 0730h AEST, based on open-source intelligence and early law enforcement reporting.

What is confirmed so far:

• Two attackers were involved.
• One attacker is confirmed deceased at the scene.
• The second attacker remains hospitalised under intensive care.
• NSW Police have confirmed 16 fatalities, with approximately 40 people hospitalised, including two police officers who are reported as stable.
• Victims include Australian, Israeli, and French nationals, with identities still being formally confirmed by authorities.

Attack characteristics (preliminary):

• Three fi****ms were used, assessed to include two shotguns and one rifle.
• Video analysis indicates one attacker demonstrated weapons handling proficiency, including use of cover, controlled reloads, and consistent firing stance.
• One attacker was reportedly disarmed by a civilian during the incident.
• Police have not yet formally confirmed weapon types or training background.

Targeting observations:

• Footage suggests one attacker appeared focused on the Chanukah event and police presence, while largely ignoring unrelated bystanders.
• A potential third suspect circulated online was assessed to be a bystander and was released by police after questioning.
• Authorities have not announced additional arrests at this time.

Intelligence and security context:

• ASIO has confirmed one attacker was previously known to them, but not assessed as an immediate threat at the time.
• Australia’s national terrorism threat level remains at “Probable.”
• Investigations are ongoing regarding motive, potential ideological drivers, and access pathways.

This remains an active investigation, and information will continue to evolve. As always, caution should be exercised when interpreting early reporting, particularly imagery and commentary circulating on social media.

For organisations responsible for public events, executive travel, or community gatherings, this incident reinforces the importance of protective intelligence, early threat indicators, and layered security planning rather than reliance on reactive measures alone.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the first responders involved.
