Do you believe in signs? 💫 Seven years gone Dad, but I know you’re watching over us today 🥰

Grief & loss is universal to the human condition. We all attach to culturally appropriate symbols & rituals to ease our suffering, find answers or discover peace.

People come to yoga for a deep calling within. A knowing, or a sensation that there is more at work than what we see. That around us is an ether, an energy that shifts and moves us in flow. We are a part of this dynamic system, emerging and adapting to evolve and grow. Go with it.

When we are on the treadmill of life, these signs become blurry or are ignored because we are operating at surface level. This is where we are lost, disconnected, entitled and lonely.

But when we pause, reconnect our mind to our body and allow the sensations to arise, we can feel it. An essence of connectedness to all around us. When you are in that space and glance up, you will connect to another being who resides in that moment also. Do you feel it?

And today, as I run around trying to avoid a wave of grief washing me away again, I glance at my phone and there you are 💙

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable 🥴

Nothing changes without challenge, patterns keep repeating until you make space for discomfort, on and off the mat 🧘🏼‍♀️

Take note! There is a fine line between discomfort and pain. Learn your boundaries and honour your edges 🙏🏼

Whether you want to effect change in your body, your mind or your feelings, you need to put in the hard work 😓 It’s going to get ugly, feel uneasy and be confronting. But the reward will be so much sweeter, because of how hard you worked to get there 💪🏼

All great achievements are preceded by small wins 🏆 Effort equals success!

So if there is something you want to change or achieve, start making small steps towards your goal 💚

Svadhyaya is the study of Self. The quiet observation of your thoughts, feelings and reactions. Become the master of this, and you become the master of your Self.

It will be uncomfortable 😣

But it’s so, so worth it 🙌🏼

Your body is trying to tell you something …

Often we dwell on our thoughts 💭 The mind is just one organ in the body, it just happens to talk to us. A lot. And we can take too much notice of its chatter, or vritti 🗣🧠

Connected to our minds is our body, particularly our nervous system. This complex, dynamic web of energy sends signals, or somatics, that we often ignore because ‘feeling’ is not revered in Western society.

Try this: when next meeting a new person, rather than thinking what to say, stop 🛑 See what occurs in your body. There will be a rising sensation in your torso. Heart, chest, solar plexus, belly. Take note. Don’t react.

Yoga teaches us to become observers. To notice not only our thoughts (which are often dysfunctional and maladaptive) but the visceral experience of our physical being.

Your body is telling you whether you are safe, loved, heard, respected… Get to know your body. It’s rhythm and patterns. That big ole brain 🧠 sometimes needs to shhhh! 🤫

When you embark on a journey of self discovery, not everyone will like it 😤

When you start to question your thoughts, observe your feelings, and become aware of your behaviours, the cracks begin to open and you can take a deeper peer inside 🫣

Do you like what you see?

It is a brave and humbling path, to sit in quiet observation of your constructed sense of Self. What or who has shaped your values and beliefs? Do you even know what they are? What is your perception of reality? Is everything you’ve been told the truth? Who says that it is?

You can question everything, I invite you🤲🏼

And some will not like it, because you are questioning them too 🤔

But when you begin to feel something is off, that patterns of discontent become apparent, then it’s time to turn your focus inwards. It’s going to get messy 🤯

And here is where yoga begins. The slow practice, requiring patience and compassion, inquiry and discomfort, where the edges of the body melt away and the consciousness begins 💫

More than the poses, it’s the space in between. The quiet whispers at the back of your mind previously drowned out by busy-ness and noise 🙉

Here is where you begin to connect. To your sense of “I” and your awareness of “we” 🌏

Sit there for a moment, beyond your comfort, and listen👂🏼This is yoga 🧘🏼‍♀️
