Loving the Hay Mini National Show ‘n Show.

Here’s some thoughts from a couple of Autistic people.

Change is hard for many Autistic people. It’s not that they need everything the same but that they don’t filter it out so it can be exhausting and overwhelming. A few examples;

Today we’re at the Hay Mini Nationals Show & Shine. Last time we were here there was a bouncy castle. So it not being here this year is disappointing and makes us sad.

At the driver’s briefing before the parade, they told us there were donuts. When we got to the show and shine we found out that they were sold out before we even arrived, and that they only had cinnamon & sugar anyway. So for those of us that wanted a chocolate donut, it would have been a disappointment anyway because that’s the only type they like.

These things make it harder for us to trust people and attend these events next time.

What could be done?
Tell us about the details - what type of donuts, limitations eg if we need to preorder or risk that may be already sold out
Give us information that’s accessible - a map of the show & show with which stalls and where they are

We love the event and want it to accessible and inclusive ❤️
