Happy Saturday 🐶

25/03/2026

A few months on from the devastating Central Coast bushfires… and we have the kind of update we’ve all been hoping for.

Sassy is doing incredibly well. Her burns have healed, her feet are now fully recovered (and very fluffy again) thanks to the amazing work of specialist surgeon Dr Sarah Goldsmid, ARH Homebush - Sassy is back enjoying life where she belongs - at home.

Even more special… Siew Lee recently adopted a rescue kitten named Cheeky - a ragdoll cross, just like Sassy’s brother who was sadly lost in the fire. And somehow, it feels like the perfect match. The two have quickly become inseparable - cuddling, grooming, and bringing comfort back into each other’s lives.

After everything they’ve been through, seeing Sassy safe, loved, and thriving means so much to all of us. This is what hope looks like.

Meet Louis 🐾

Louis presented to ARH Homebush after being attacked by another dog, having been grabbed around the thorax. On arrival, he had significant swelling and bruising to the left side of his chest, and there was initial concern for possible spinal injury.

X-rays revealed three rib fractures on the left side, a pneumothorax (air around the lungs), subcutaneous emphysema (air trapped under the skin), and a luxation in the cervical spinal region.

Louis stayed in hospital overnight receiving pain relief, IV fluids, and close monitoring from our team. Thankfully, he began to turn the corner — he started walking well, moving his neck comfortably, and breathing steadily despite his rib fractures. Even better, his appetite returned and he began eating well.

Louis was able to go home to continue recovering with his family, and we’re very happy to say he has since made a full recovery. 💙🐾

Meet Tubs 🐾

Tubs was rushed into ARH Homebush after becoming lethargic, inappetent, and vomiting. On arrival, he was in shock and required immediate stabilisation. An ultrasound quickly revealed the cause — a gastrointestinal foreign body.

Tubs was soon taken to surgery, where our skilled surgeons successfully removed the culprit: a hair tie (a classic snack choice for Tubs… and not his first time either!).

Following surgery, Tubs had a naso-gastric tube placed to help drain the fluid that had accumulated in his stomach. With a few days of hospital care, including IV fluids, pain relief, and lots of monitoring from our team, Tubs made a great recovery.

Before long, Mr Tubs was back to being his cheeky, playful self — hopefully staying away from hair ties in the future! 💙🐾
