Seeing as it is almost Valentine’s Day I thought I would kick off this year by answering that BIG question on everyone’s mind after having a hip or knee replaced – when can you return to sexual activity? Of course, there is so much more to it than just the physical act and in my opinion, s.e.x is one of the most complicated occupations humans engage in. It is my hope these little tips will help answer some of your big questions and help support your return to this important activity.

Tag your partner, or someone you know who is planning/recovering from a joint replacement and help spread the love (and lovin’) this Valentine’s Day. Enjoy!

As both an OT and a Reiki Master I cannot agree more. Reiki allows me to work with my clients in a way OT just cannot reach particularly on that spiritual level that if often neglected in healthcare. OT provides wonderful, practical solutions when our health gets in the way of living life on our terms. The two combined being a powerful service to empower people through navigate their healthcare challenges and live meaningful lives. I would love to see reiki as an essential skill in the therapeutic toolkit of all healthcare professionals.

I recently watched a webinar where Torsten A. Lange completed a science experiment on the effects of reiki on water. He found there was always a positive effect in the three experiments the completed. The first was done in a Swiss lab where the Swiss water received one hour of reiki and improved by one whole point (apparently a significant change). The London water received 6 hours of reiki over a three day period and demonstrated a “massive improvement rarely seen” by the testing lab. The third experiment was Swiss water in the lab receiving one hour of distance reiki from Torsten in London which came out with the same results as the water in the first experiment. Exciting stuff!

Now, if we consider our bodies are 55-75% water with each cell consisting of 60-90% water reiki is going to have a positive impact on our bodies. Reiki practitioners know it and see it all the time so it’s lovely to see science is now able to provide the evidence some of us need to believe. 💖

I am so excited for my clients to receive the benefits of the integration of reiki with occupational therapy when preparing and recovering from joint replacement surgery. Why accept anything less?! I’ve got you! 💞🫶🙌

Holistic Nursing Practice (March/April 2017 issue) featured a pilot study titled "Effects of Reiki on Pain, Anxiety, and Blood Pressure in Patients Undergoing Knee Replacement."⁠

46 patients undergoing knee replacement surgery were investigated for the study and placed into 3 different groups. It notes, "Of the 3 groups, Reiki, Sham Reiki, and Standard of Care, only the Reiki group showed significant reductions in pain, blood pressure, respiration rate, and state anxiety, which provides evidence for a full-scale clinical study."⁠

Life is nothing more than adapting to the constant changes in our lives. It is time for me to express my gratitude to all that Maxwell Healing has given me - I have learnt and grown so much under its gentle tutelage. Now I have a clearer picture of what it is I want to bring into this world it is time to shed the cocoon of Maxwell Healing and step out as The Energetic OT. I am excited to see what this next chapter brings!
