Iāve always felt like I wasnāt an angry person. But lately, Iām realising thatās not really true. No human is just one thing or the other.
Working with around somatics and deep anger repression is helping me access repressed emotions. Through this work Iām feeling deeply - not just anger, shame, hurt, but also excitement, joy, even my own aliveness.
In subconsciously avoiding the raw, unfiltered, difficult-to-face parts of myself that I suppressed as a child, I people-pleased, lived and worked through constant dis-ease, health conditions, fatigue, anxiety and depression. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin and built many life rafts to help me stay ābalancedā.
What Iāve come to understand is that repressed feelings and emotions stored in the body create dis-ease and stress, leading to a myriad of symptoms and illnesses. The body always keeps the score when we donāt allow ourselves to feel.
Over the years Iāve explored a lot - human behavioural work, NET (Neuro-Emotional Technique), Joe Dispenza and Dr Demartiniās teachings plus his Breakthrough Experience training, a heap of Breathworks, ice baths, plant medicines, and other modalities - all of which have culminated in my desire to go on this new journey with Ryan.
Now, as a father, this feels even more meaningful.
I want to teach my son that all feelings are welcome - that he doesnāt need to be āperfectā or always in control to be loved or accepted. That his sadness, anger, excitement and joy are all part of being human.
As Dr Gabor MatĆ© says, āThe attempt to be always positive is not healthy, itās a denial of the full range of human emotion.ā
And as Joe Hudson reminds us, āFreedom isnāt found in controlling emotion ā itās in feeling it, without judgment.ā
This work has been uncomfortable and confronting, but through it Iām learning that emotion isnāt good or bad - itās simply energy wanting to move.
We live and breathe what we share, always walking it before we teach it. Iāll keep sharing this journey as it unfolds, in the hope it helps others recognise whatās been left unfelt, welcome it fully, and move forward with more freedom and presence š«¶š¼āÆļø
