Position Title: Cultural Program Worker
Location: In community & various sites
Reports to: Cultural Program Coordinator
Salary Classification: Negotiable - SCHADS Level depending on quals and/or experience
Employment Status: Casual hours
15 hrs per week

About Boorrumpah Goupong Aboriginal Corporation
Boorrumpah Goupong Aboriginal Corporation began as a grassroots initiative, with a deep commitment to supporting men facing mental health challenges and social isolation within the Ipswich and surrounding communities.
Prior to being incorporated, activity took shape through informal weekly gatherings, in local parks, individuals coming together in a safe, supportive environment to share stories, seek guidance, and find strength in cultural connection. These gatherings became a cornerstone for fostering resilience, healing, and mutual support, reflecting the fundamental values of Aboriginal kinship and solidarity.
Boorrumpah Goupong Aboriginal Corporation (BGAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation governed by an elected Board of Directors, that has been providing supports Men and young boys by walking beside them on their mental health and wellbeing journey. We are committed to fostering connections, empowering communities within Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley, and building a future where everyone feels welcome and valued.
The Role Overview
BGAC’s Cultural Support Workers are an important part of our work and will work as part of delivering the Doing Life Together programs.
Position Description
These roles are casual and primarily based in Ipswich, with travel required to surrounding areas, including Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich and surrounding regions. CSWs assist with delivering culturally appropriate and responsive support (e.g., advice, language, capacity building, etc.) alongside BGAC staff and clients, to achieve outcomes.
CSWs are employed as advisors with lived experience, to participate in group activities and consultations together with other CSWs to support BGAC and other service providers, to design and deliver programs that meet the needs and interests of our diverse cultural groups of men and young boys.
What You’ll Be Doing:
BGAC invests in high quality team members that understand and practice their cultural ways and a preparedness to share these learnings, skills and practices as part of our Men’s mental health journeys and social activity groups and camps.
• Provide culturally responsive support to individuals and families, helping them navigate services and overcome barriers faced by Men and young boys and their communities throughout Ipswich and surrounding areas.
• Assist other men and clients of BGAC in connecting to essential services, cultural networks, and social opportunities where these opportunities exist.
• Participate in and provide orientation activities with tools, local area knowledge sharing, household safety, and public transport training within group work
• Engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, applying sound judgment, initiative, and discretion in all interactions.
• Assist with basic program tasks, including administrative support and maintaining accurate records and responsible for set-up for all group activities.
• Provide emergency and crisis intervention if required, under the direction of a Cultural Program Coordinator.
• Offering advice to BGAC teams about community needs and experiences.
• Provide feedback on services and programs to ensure accessibility and cultural appropriateness.
• Advise external organisations on culturally informed practices for engaging diverse communities of men and young boys.
• Commitment to social justice, human rights, and working with various cultural groups.
Conditions of Employment
• Diploma or Certificate IV in Community Services, Community Development, or Lived experience in a related discipline
• Administration and form completing skills and checklists.
• Current / willing to obtain a Working with Children’s Check and Working with People with Disabilities
• Willing to conduct a Police Check
• Hold a current driver’s license.
• This role is subject to funding and annual review

Desirable:
• Skills relevant to client communities.
• Previous experience in community support, consultation, or cultural advisory roles and/or involvement.
• Experience working within trauma-informed frameworks or with individuals with lived experience of mental health.
• Willingness to drive a 7-seater vehicle to transport Elders and clients, ensuring safety and professionalism at all times.
• Willingness to travel to various locations, including long-distance travel within the Ipswich and surrounding areas, as required for the role.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings, based on client or program needs.
• Ability to manage the physical and emotional demands of the role, including working under pressure.
