Yesterday, Women's Health NSW and members from Full Stop Australia, Central West Women's Health Centre and Illawarra Women's Health Centre, attended the Strengthening Justice Responses to Sexual Violence Roundtable put on by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice. Facilitated by NSW Women's Safety Commissioner, Dr Hannah Tonkin, the day began with data-driven scene setting for a nuanced conversation about restorative and other forms of justice. Jackie Fitzgerald, the executive director of the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research remarked on NSW being in a unique place where "we're no longer calling for more research, we've got the research, we're now calling for action," to address rocketing sexual violence statistics (going up 10% year on year).

What an unforgettable day for 16 Days of Activism!

From the powerful energy of our march to the joy and courage shared during our Songs of Survival karaoke night, the sense of solidarity was truly felt in every step, every voice, and every moment.

Seeing our community come together with such heart was incredibly touching. The turnout reminded us that when we stand side by side, speak up, and show up for one another, we help build a future free from gendered violence.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to all the incredible collaborators who made these events possible — and for the immense effort poured in behind the scenes. Your dedication, creativity, and passion brought this day to life, and we’re endlessly grateful.

On Tuesday 2 December, our clinician Breanna had the privilege of joining passionate industry professionals at the Bathurst Dying to Know event for a thoughtful and deeply meaningful conversation about proactive planning for death.

Breanna spoke about the vital role psychological support plays in preparing for the end of life and in navigating grief after a loss. She also explored cultural and historical practices of deathcare - inviting us to look beyond a strictly medicalised Western model and consider the diverse, creative and culturally rich possibilities that exist for how we care for our dead and honour their lives.

Events like this remind us that knowledge, reflection and open conversation can empower all of us to approach end-of-life planning with confidence.

A huge thank you to the wonderful collaborators and organisers who made the day possible including Western NSW Primary Health Network, Preparing the Way, Western NSW Local Health District and Carer Gateway.

Today for 16 Days of Activism, we’re highlighting the role our online spaces play in shaping attitudes and behaviours in the real world.

Gendered violence doesn’t start with physical harm. it’s fuelled by the everyday hate, discrimination and disrespect that too often goes unchallenged online. Comments that demean women, jokes that reinforce harmful stereotypes, or posts that silence or shame victim-survivors all contribute to a culture where violence is minimised or excused.

Respect is challenging online hate and discrimination.
It’s choosing to speak up, report harmful content, support those targeted, and promote safer, kinder digital communities.

Small acts online can make a big difference offline.

Today for 16 Days of Activism we amplify accountability and growth.

Small conversations can create big change. When we hold each other accountable with kindness, we help build safer relationships, stronger friendships, and a culture where respect is the norm - not the exception.

Today, for 16 Days of Activism, we’re shining a light on consent.

Respect is seeking enthusiastic consent - that is clear, willing, and freely given. Consent isn’t a grey area, a guessing game, or something to assume. It’s an ongoing conversation that ensures everyone involved feels safe, respected, and valued.

We’re also sharing an infographic from the Australian Government’s “Consent Can’t Wait” campaign, which highlights current attitudes toward consent across Australia. These insights remind us how important it is to keep challenging harmful myths, strengthening our understanding, and modelling respectful relationships in our families, workplaces, and communities.

Today for 16 Days of Activism, we’re reflecting on how respect shows up in every part of our lives, including in our sporting communities.

We are excited to support the Bathurst District Junior Cricket Association's event this afternoon where the community are invited to show up and go "nuts" at the cricket by dancing the Nutbush as a stance against gendered violence.

CWWHC staff and Board members had a great time at the second gathering of the Bathurst Women’s Network, held at the beautiful BoxGrove Bathurst.

We are pleased to be featured here alongside Erin from the Bathurst Women’s Network, who is one of the inspiring women behind the network who are working incredibly hard to create more opportunities for women in Bathurst to connect, network and support one another. It’s exciting to see this momentum building.

And stay tuned! We’re looking forward to partnering with the Bathurst Women’s Network in the new year as we prepare for something special for International Women’s Day.
