✨Fireside Chat #3 - Pets in Homebirth✨

Danae Specialised Birth Doula, Pregnancy Yoga chatted with us recently about animals in the birth space, and the craziest pets that we’ve experienced (there have been a few!! 😂).

Midwife Kate shares one of her funny & craziest pet experiences…..Enjoy!!

Overall, we LOVE Pets in the Birth Space. They are a really wonderful Oxytocin stimulant, and they are known to reduce stress & anxiety too. They often hang around close to Mum in the beginning, then they give Mum space for a while….and FINALLY, just before the baby comes earth-side, they come back around Mum again, to boost her Oxytocin & to provide love, care & support for her at that precious & beautiful time.

WE JUST LOVE PETS IN THE BIRTH SPACE (well, usually).

Homebirth is VERY DIFFERENT to Freebirth….and, we thank Hannah Dahlen for her article in The Conversation Australia + NZ, highlighting this.

As Homebirth Midwives who are knowledgeable, skilled, experienced & equipped to deal with any event that ‘may’ unfold at home, we are truly grateful Hannah 🤩🙌🏻.

In almost 5 years, since The Nesting Hub was created, the need has not arisen yet to transfer any of our homebirthing clients in an Emergency 000 Ambulance - and we have cared for women whose risk profiles have spread across Categories A, B and C - low, medium & high risk.

We are all experienced, knowledgeable midwives who have worked across all models of maternity care before making the decision to step into Private Midwifery Practice. Between us, we have 59 years of clinical midwifery knowledge & experience and we have attended more than 3000 births across our careers.

Homebirth IS Safe when women / birthing people are cared for appropriately by those with knowledge, skill & experience. It is safe with those who can identify & then act upon a change in circumstance for mum &/or baby, and it is safe when providng effective, evidence-based midwifery care in a timely & efficient manner.

We offer home as a choice for labour & birth and we believe in that choice. We support normal physiology and our statistics reflect just how safe homebirthing can be. We are also respectful of everyone’s decisions that they make in their care journey. What is right for one might not be right for the next person. Providing individualised care and continuity of care has known benefits, and birthing at home has too.

So, give careful consideration to your choice of birth team, to your place of birth & to those you tell if you are choosing to birth at home. The birth of your baby is a momentous time in you, your baby & your family’s lives, and the way people act & the things that they say can have a long-lasting impact ♥️.

A free birth is when a woman chooses to have a baby, usually at home, without a registered midwife or doctor in attendance. It’s much riskier than a planned home birth.

✨ HOMEBIRTH AS A MODEL OF CARE ✨

Danae Specialised Birth Doula, Pregnancy Yoga has created ‘Midwives at your Door’ - a series of interviews helping to shine a light on the misunderstood model of maternity care - homebirthing with privately practicing endorsed midwives.

This is just the beginning of a series of snippets from a 2 hour long interview helping you get to know this incredible group of women that come together to make up The Nesting Hub.

The Nesting Hub founder and Endorsed Home Birth Midwife Gail, proudly speaks about her 0% emergency transfer rate in the almost 5 years this group of midwives have been supporting women in their homes.

Gail, Kate and Emma are all endorsed midwives which means they can all step into the role of primary midwife for ANY woman in The Nesting Hub’s care - a unique model which has never been formally done here before.

I can’t wait to share more - the final full interviews will be coming soon - but for now…enjoy these teasers!

Danae ….we are truly thankful for this opportunity & we thank you & your team for making this wonderful concept a reality 💜.

✨🕯️Wave of Light🕯️✨

Wave of Light is an opportunity to unite with bereaved parents, families, friends, fellow midwives & other healthcare professionals around the globe, to commemorate each of the precious babies who sadly died too soon 💔.

This time of remembrance takes place at 7pm on 15th October every year, and we as The Nesting Hub midwives will light a candle for the babies who were deeply loved, who fought so hard to stay & who were devastatingly lost 😔💔.

We remember each of you, we unite with you, we hold time & space for you, and we send the biggest of hugs to surround you & your loved ones at this time too✨💜.

✨WE REMEMBER YOU✨

The world may never notice
If a rosebud doesn’t bloom:
Or even pause to wonder if the petals fall too soon.

But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be
Touches the World in some small way
For all eternity.

The little ones we longed for
Were swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.

And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do
Every beating of my heart says
“I Remember You” ✨♥️

In almost 5 Years, since The Nesting Hub was born…..,this is THE VERY FIRST sharps container that has reached its maximum fill line 🤩🙌🏻👌🏻. I think this says A LOT about the way that we work, the medications we administer & the people who choose our model of maternity care.

We are safe, skilled & experienced homebirth midwives 🤩🙌🏻👌🏻, who support normal physiology.

In EVERY BIRTH….

✨ We bring along ‘Just in Case’ MEDICATIONS (and we hardly ever need to administer them)

✨ We bring a fully-stocked birth kit, along-with the means to medicalise, if required…..and, we hardly ever need to use anything. The most replaced item in our birth kit is actually our large absorbent sheets that help to contain amniotic fluid (before birth) & a little blood (after birth). How good is that?! 🤩

✨ We bring Resuscitative Equipment, Oxygen & Updated Skills & Knowledge to provide Life - Saving Emergency Treatment at Home, should that ever be required, and in almost 5 years, we have administered a little Oxygen to 3 babies, and so far (touch wood), we have NEVER needed to perform Cardiac Compressions on a Mum or Baby in our care across that time.

Homebirth IS Safe

Homebirth IS a Worthwhile Consideration

Home IS Where the Heart Is ♥️.

….and, Continuity of Midwifery Care IS The Gold Standard of Maternity Care across the World 🌏💜.

Interested in our offerings?! Feel free to reach out 🌻.
