Hard pills to swallow: Pregnancy and postpartum edition

Pregnancy and birth don’t just test your body they test the support around you and the information you were given before things got real.

A lot of women assume they’ll be guided through decisions in birth only to realise later that guidance and full education aren’t always the same thing.

At the same time support doesn’t magically appear in the room.
Partners can be present but still unprepared.
And systems can be efficient but still not centred on your experience.

So many women end up in a space where they’re trying to understand what’s happening advocate for themselves and manage everyone else’s reactions all at once.

And afterwards they’re told it was normal.

This isn’t about fear.
It’s about honesty.

Because the more we normalise silence around these gaps the more women are left to piece it together after the

They say “it takes a village”… and postpartum is where you truly feel it 🤍

A village is not just people holding your baby. It is the ones who hold you.

It is the friend who drops off dinner without asking.
The person who folds your washing while you cry or nap.
The one who reminds you that you are doing an incredible job on the days you feel like you are not.
It is late night texts, coffee deliveries, school pickups, toddler wrangling, and quiet company when the world feels too loud.

A postpartum village shows up in the small, unseen ways and those moments can mean everything.

But if you do not have a village right now… please hear this

You are not failing. You are not alone in feeling alone.

Start small.
Reach out to one person.
Join a mothers group, an online community, or sit next to another mum at the park and say hi.
Let people help even if it feels uncomfortable.
And most importantly, be gentle with yourself in this season.

Sometimes, we build our own village slowly and that counts just as much

Well I got my first negative review ... and it wasnt from a client! It was from a disgruntled yank who doesnt believe in bodily autonomy!
Anna believes a 12 year old victim of r**e should be forced to carry and birth children - yep sick right?

In around 76% of birthing people, a line — often purple (but it can also appear red or white on darker skin tones) — may rise up along the cleft as labour progresses. This phenomenon, more common in those who go into spontaneous labour, is thought to be linked to vasocongestion at the base of the sacrum.

While vaginal examinations remain a standard way to measure cervical dilation, they’re not always accurate and can feel intrusive for some during labour. Observing the purple line offers a potential alternative that respects the labouring person’s comfort.
