Our GWM OT team have been very busy and as a result, very quiet on our socials so we wanted to give everyone an update with what we’ve been up to as we rapidly approach the end of the year!

Naomi - has been running a messy play group for children aged 0-6 in Upwey this term. Emma - has returned from her big holiday to Italy and is back seeing her regular clients. She has also started up a brand new program to provide support to families stuck on waitlists. She has immediate capacity to provide tailored parental support and strategies on an ongoing, ‘book in as you need’ basis, every Thursday. Melanie - Mel has returned from her big trip to Japan. She is back seeing her clients and preparing for the upcoming school holiday programs that she will be running with Naomi - Ready Rocket and Baking Buddies. Charlee- has finished uni for the year and has taken up extra days of client work to make sure all of our clients are finishing the year strong - thanks Charlee! We are actively looking for a new OT to transition Charlee’s clients too when she starts back at uni next year and will have decreased capacity - if you know an awesome OT who may be interested, reach out!

Michaela- has a new addition to the family - Opie. If you give us a call and can hear some barking in the background, this adorable little guy is the culprit! Despite that, Michaela is always by the phone ready to take any questions about Make Mess With Me, OT Connect or our January school holiday groups so give her a call if you have any questions.

We are looking forward to this last month of the year and all of the joy and celebration that comes with it. If there is anything that we can do for your child or family before we close on Dec 19 until Jan 12, please get in touch!

Happy OT Week to all of the wonderful OTs across the world!

At Grow With Me we celebrated with a team lunch and games in the office on Thursday. Once again we forgot to take a photo of all of us together, but we did manage to snap the winners of our OT Trivia with Naomi and Mel drawing equal 1st place with Charlee not far behind.

We would just like to reiterate how much we appreciate the hard work that each and every member of our team put in to the care and support of our valued clients and their families. Being an OT is never easy, but working in the NDIS space at the moment is particularly challenging. Your grit and determination to do what is best for your families despite all of the external forces working against you does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

What a day at Federation University Jobs Fair.
Naomi and Melanie had a wonderful time chatting to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students who came and had a chat with us about all the we do at GWM OT.

It was fantastic to see some of the students and AHAs that have worked with us over the last couple of years progressing in their studies, with some even completing their studies today 🎓.

We wish all the students that we spoke to all the best and hope to have some of you work with us at GWM as either a student, and AHA or a new graduate in the future.

September school holidays are just around the corner 🎉

And we are excited to be bringing back our Social Explorers and Social Problem Solvers programs.

These groups are for 4-8 year olds who have difficulty navigating the social world around them. Our programs help children to look for social cues, problem solve through issues and empower them to develop and maintain relationships.

We have limited places available with up to only 6 children in each program (1:2 therapist ratio). So register your interest today!

If you have previously done our Social Explorers program, this is the perfect opportunity to take the next step with our Social Problem Solvers program.

Welcome to our new student, Emily!
Emily will be working with Emma and her clients until the end of August and we are all excited to have her here.
Please feel free to share Emily’s photo and some information about her with your child if you feel this would be helpful for them in preparation for meeting her. Emily will start seeing clients from tomorrow!

Hi! My name is Emily and I’m a 3rd year Occupational Therapy student at Federation University Gippsland.
For my placement, I will be working with OT Emma at Grow With Me Therapy until the end of August.
I have lived in Gippsland my whole life and want to continue servicing this wonderful region after I graduate.
I love arts and crafts, hanging out with my friends and family, and working with kids.
At home, I live with my parents, three younger brothers, my dog Chewy, some chickens, a bird, and some very cheeky goats named Harry and Molly.

Thats a wrap on our school holiday program for term 2!
What a blast 🚀 we had running the workshop for kids.

🌟We explored our emotions.
🌟We discovered what helped our bodies to power up and power down.
🌟 We practised running our rocket at the perfect speed for the activity we were wanting to do.

There is no doubt that this is one of our favourite programs 🙌🏻

Our senior OT would support management with monthly supervision of mid-level staff (4-5 years experience), developing and delivering group therapy programs, run our AHA program, and other leadership responsibilities as they become available.

🌟 Our next 12 months of group programs 🌟

We know families like to book their holidays in advance, but then they’re disappointed when the group they wanted to do clashes with a plan. SO we are announcing our next 12 months of groups in advance so that you can mark them in your calendars and plan accordingly.

Please check out the programs that you may be interested in and register your interest as early as possible!

This school holidays we have the VERY POPULAR Ready Rocket Emotional Regulation program running.
We currently only have 1 spot remaining for 5-7 year olds and 3 spots for 8-12 year olds.

This is a bit of a cranky post but we need to get this info out there and change the narrative that the NDIS are pushing. They say they are cracking down on fraud, greedy providers and overspending. This isn’t true.

The NDIS have recently brought out several big policy changes, all of which have huge NEGATIVE impacts on participants and makes it nearly impossible for providers to stay operational. Yet all you will hear about in the media is that providers are greedy and fraudulent. As a collective, we Allied Health Professionals are making our voices loud and trying to put the focus back where it belongs, on the damaging and downright dangerous measures that the NDIS are taking to cut costs.

Here are some of our biggest concerns:
- The majority of Allied Health providers have had their rates frozen for the 6th year despite significant increase in operational costs and wages over this timeframe. More than 60% of OT practices were running at a loss or just breaking even, even before any of these cuts were brought in.
- Several Allied Health professions had their prices decrease by $5-$40 per hour.
- The price of travel was slashed to 50% of the hourly rate for all providers, making mobile therapy not a feasible service for many providers and disproportionately impacting rural and remote communities.
- Funding is being allocated in standard funding blocks of 3 months now instead of 12. This will create a huge administrative burden for providers and families. It also puts families of greater risk of running out of funding on a more regular basis and needing to pay for services out of pocket, have disjointed therapy, or lose their ‘spot’ with their service provider.
- NDIS are putting people with disability back into boxes with ‘support categories’. Once participants are given their category they will only be eligible for supports that match their ‘category’. This change is a complete divergence from the individualised support that the NDIS is supposed to provide.

These changes are outrageous and serve the governments bottom line rather than the disabled community who rely on this system.

We have to stand together and spread awareness. We have to demand change. It’s now or never.

All About Us

Grow With Me OT is a new, mobile paediatric Occupational Therapy service currently working with families in the East Gippsland area.

While our therapists are from Melbourne we are committed to providing quality services in rural and regional areas of Victoria where there is often limited access to support services.

Our Occupational Therapists come to you in your home, school or kindergarten to provide therapy services to children aged 0-18.

We can work with you to increase your child's fine and gross motor skills, social skills, emotional regulation and/or sensory regulation, self-care skills, attention and organisational skills.We are also able to help families access the NDIS.
