💫2026 Vision: New Skills, Full Cup, & Fiji Sunsets!💫
Whew, 2025! It was a year of incredible realness. I felt some huge highs—moments that reaffirmed why I do what I do and definitely some downs that taught me more about grace, resilience, and the strength found in rebuilding and restoration.

Above all, a massive THANK YOU to the incredible mums and families who trusted me to support them through their pregnancy and matrescence journey this past year. Your strength, vulnerability, and trust fuels my passion and love for what I do. I’m stepping into the new year with an even bigger heart and more fire in my belly!

🌴Deepening My Skills for You🌴
My goal is to always offer the most nurturing and holistic support possible. 2026 will see new offerings:
✨Going Deeper: I’m continuing my work with the Core Floor Restores Reconnected Birthing Mentorship. This training is about helping women truly reconnect their mind, body, and spirit after birth. It’s soul-level healing, and I can’t wait to bring it to life at BTPM
✨Healing Hands: I’m SO excited to attend a 2-day workshop with the incredible to learn her specialist The C-Section Release Method. For my C-section mamas, this is going to be a profound tool to help you heal and feel whole again. Seriously a game-changer!
✨The Next Chapter: I’m eagerly waiting for courses to drop from .lorri.labourbodywork! I hope to jump into her teachings to bring even more bodywork and comfort for you all

☀️Taking Time to Restore My Soul☀️
You know I encourage you to fill your cup, and I need to lead by example! To make sure I can continue pouring into my work, I’m taking some time off to celebrate and restore. I’ll be off from mid-July through to the end of August. This break is extra special—my husband and I are celebrating our 40th birthdays in beautiful Fiji! We will be soaking up sunshine, family moments and come back refreshed and ready for the rest of 2026.

Thank you for trusting me with your most sacred moments. I’m so excited to see what 2026 holds for all of us!

💫A powerful reminder for all of us in the maternity sphere: the greatest gift we can offer is truly holding space, free from our own projections.💫

The journey through pregnancy and birth is intensely personal, and as practitioners—whether you’re a midwife, doula or doctor,—we are guests in that sacred space.

It is absolutely foundational to providing excellent care that we take the time to explore our own:
✨Personal Fears: Are we projecting anxieties about a specific outcome onto the women’s choices?
✨Biases: Do we favour one birth setting, intervention, or path over another, and why?
✨Past Experiences: Are we letting a previous negative outcome cloud our judgment for the person in front of us?

This self-awareness is not just ‘good practice’—it’s the core of ethical, women-centered care.

As an individual, and through my journey as a midwife, I have had to consciously work and continue working through my own deeply ingrained fears and biases. This inner work is continuous, but necessary. Recognising that the anxiety or a feeling in my body is mine, and not the women’s burden to carry. This allows me to step into my role as a supportive guide, centering their autonomy.

Let’s reflect and ensure our professional discussions are based on good evidence, respect for autonomy and not personal preference or anxiety. When we do the inner work, we can wholeheartedly support the choices of every birthing person, offering them our non-judgmental presence, information and unwavering support.

💫The Journey Of Birth is Built Within💫

Let’s talk truth about labour and birth preparation. It’s not just about packing a bag and checking off a list. It’s about deep, internal work, starting the moment you find out you are growing a little human.

My role is to hold the space and guide the process, but YOU are the powerhouse.

Birth is the incredible portal into motherhood. And true preparation means:

✨Stripping Down the Layers: We work together to identify the fears, doubts, and societal narratives that are holding you back.

✨Facing the Mirror: You are doing the essential work of self-discovery—connecting to your innate strength and instincts that society often tells you to ignore.

✨Building an Unshakable Foundation: This early work transforms your pregnancy from a waiting game into an active, intentional training period. This isn’t just physical prep; it’s soul prep.

The powerful, positive birth you envision isn’t something you wait for; it’s something you realise and manifest through dedicated, deep diving emotional and mental exploration. This allows you to step into motherhood feeling confident, anchored, and utterly powerful.

Birth Power is Built Within, It Doesn’t Begin at 36 Weeks 💪

💫Did you know private midwives cannot share testimonials?💫

Sharing testimonials on our website or social media is against our APHRA guidelines. It’s a reality we navigate every day. This often means the deeply personal, holistic, and truly transformative essence of private midwifery care can remain unseen – making it incredibly challenging for us to fully illustrate the profound impact it has on women, families, and even our broader community. We see the profound difference every single day, but we need your help to share it more widely.

If you’ve been supported, nurtured, and empowered by a private midwife through your unique journey of pregnancy, birth, and the tender embrace of early motherhood, I invite you to share your story. By doing so, you don’t just share an experience; you help to weave a richer tapestry of understanding,
demonstrating the incredible value and vital importance of this specialised care in building resilient, well-supported families and communities.

✨New beginnings blooming at Beneath Palms Midwifery! ✨

Hello, beautiful community! I’m absolutely thrilled to finally share my new logo for Beneath The Palms Midwifery! 🌴 More than just a visual update, this moment feels significant as it reflects personal growth of my self as a woman and midwife.

Looking back over the past three years, I’m filled with gratitude for the amazing growth I and my space has experienced. It’s been an honor to walk alongside so many incredibly strong women and their families as they moved through pregnancy, birth and into motherhood.

This isn’t just a new look; it’s a meaningful reflection of our shared journey. Each mother, each baby, each connection, has contributed to the evolution of Beneath The Palms Midwifery, shaping it into what it is now. For this I am forever grateful.

🌸Celebrating the strength, resilience, and incredible power of women and midwives today on International Day of the Midwife! 🌸

As a midwife and woman, I feel true privilege in walking alongside and holding space for mothers in the rite of passage that is childbirth and motherhood.

My passion lies in holistic care that truly centers around women’s inherent wisdom, physical and emotional well-being, and choices. It’s about creating a safe and empowering space where women feel heard, held, respected, and deeply supported as they navigate this transformative time.

To all the incredible women who have allowed me to be a part of their story, thank you. It is through your openness and trust that my purpose as a midwife finds its truest meaning. You are the reason I am here.

And to my fellow midwives, thank you for your unwavering dedication to women and their families. Together, we create change for woman-centered care. We are stronger together.

🌿INDUCTION OF LABOUR STATS🌿
A study from 2021 looking at the potential outcomes of induced labour (IOL) versus spontaneous labour. This study included healthy first-time mums only and IOL for NON-medical indications birthing between 37 to 41+6 weeks.

Here’s a breakdown of what the study found:
✨Spontaneous Vaginal Birth: higher at 62.3% with spontaneous labour compared to 42.7% for induction of labour.
✨Instrumental Birth: Slightly higher with IOL at 28% vs. 23.9% for spontaneous labour.
✨C-Section: A notable difference, with IOL at 28.3% compared to 13.8% for spontaneous labour.
✨Epidural Use: Significantly more likely with IOL at 71% vs. 41% for spontaneous labour.
✨Episiotomy: More frequent with IOL at 41.2% vs. 30% for spontaneous labour.
✨Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH): A slightly higher chance with IOL at 2.4% vs. 1.5% for spontaneous labour.

💫Important Notes: Interestingly, the study found that 3rd and 4th degree tears were lower in the IOL group (4.2% vs 4.9%), though overall vaginal repair was more common with IOL.

💫Beyond Labour: The study also highlighted that babies born following induction had a higher chance of neonatal birth trauma, needing resuscitation, and respiratory disorders.

These statistics aren’t meant to scare you, but to empower you to think about what you want by:
*Educating yourself about the physiology of birth
*Creating a Birth Map by exploring possible birth pathways
*Preparing your body and mind
*Building your support system
* Using your BRAINS (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Nothing, Space) to make informed decisions

Every birth journey is unique, and sometimes intervention is needed for us or our babies. Focus on gathering the info and preparing yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally for the rite of passage of childbirth.
