We’re excited to share the story of Sabine Jamieson, whose passion for the arts and commitment to learning has set her on an extraordinary path.

When Sabine was offered a curator cadetship at Mosman Art Gallery — the first program of its kind in New South Wales, delivered by MRAEL (part of the IntoWork Australia Group) in partnership with Mosman Gallery — she described it as a defining and transformative moment in her life.
With a background in art school, Sabine discovered that her true interest lay not in creating her own work, but in uplifting the creative voices of others. Before the cadetship, she worked casual roles in galleries and customer‑facing positions, but hadn’t yet considered curating as a real career pathway. The cadetship opened that door.

Sabine’s passion lies in exploring how artists communicate their stories, experiences and identities through art — and how art encourages deeper understanding and empathy. This perspective has shaped her approach to curatorial work and her growing confidence in the field.

Her dedication has already been recognised through a Dean’s List Honor Award, acknowledging her academic excellence and commitment to her studies. Sabine is currently curating her first exhibition at Mosman Art Gallery — a milestone she describes as surreal and deeply affirming, made even more meaningful because it features the artist she has admired throughout her studies.

As part of her degree, Sabine also spent two weeks in China and Taiwan, where she connected with local art communities, learned from peers and educators, and gained firsthand cultural perspectives. It was her first time travelling solo and left a lasting impact on both her personal and academic development.

Sabine’s journey shows the power of creating accessible pathways for emerging talent — and how meaningful support can help someone step into a future they once only imagined.

We’re incredibly proud of Sabine and honoured to support her as her career continues to grow.

Last week, the MRAEL leadership team attended the IntoWork Australia Extended Leadership Team Conference, which brought leaders from across the IntoWork Australia group together for several days of connection, reflection and strategic planning.

Guided by the theme 'One Team. One Future', the conference created valuable space to step back from the day‑to‑day and focus on what lies ahead — how we continue to evolve, align and work together to further support the people and communities we serve.

We were pleased to be joined by Martin Hehir, who brings extensive experience in senior Commonwealth leadership roles, including multiple appointments as Deputy Secretary across employment, education and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. His insights added valuable perspective to future‑focused discussions on government partnership and procurement.

A highlight of the conference was a workshop led by Maria Smith from Bounce Global, focused on building high‑trust teams and reinforcing the role of trust, openness and accountability in strong leadership and effective collaboration.

By aligning as one team across the IntoWork Group, MRAEL continues to strengthen its ability to create meaningful, future‑focused pathways for the communities we serve.

🌏 Harmony Week 2026 and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

21 March 2026 | Everyone Belongs

Harmony Week runs from 16 to 22 March and is a time to recognise and celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity and the shared values that bring us together, including inclusiveness, respect and belonging. The 2026 theme, Everyone Belongs, reminds us that diversity is not only recognised in Australia, but also fundamental to who we are.

Australia is one of the world’s most culturally diverse nations, shaped by more than 300 ancestries, with over 7.6 million people migrating here since 1945. This diversity continues to strengthen our communities, workplaces and learning environments every day.

Today also marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, observed during Harmony Week. This day calls on us to look beyond celebration and reflect on the importance of actively challenging racism. In 2026, the focus highlights that listening to First Peoples’ experiences of racism is essential to achieving racial justice and meaningful change.

At MRAEL, we are committed to fostering inclusive education and employment pathways where people feel respected, valued and able to participate fully. We recognise that creating a sense of belonging requires ongoing learning, listening and action. Harmony Week and International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination remind us that everyone has a role to play in building fair, safe and inclusive environments, because everyone belongs.

12/03/2026

MRAEL was proud to join our IntoWork Australia network at Parliament House for the Australian Apprenticeships and Employment Industry Forum, hosted with the Hon Milton Dick MP and the Hon Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Skills and Training.

The forum brought together voices from government, industry, unions and employment services — but most importantly, apprentices who shared real stories from regional and local communities across the country. Their insights highlighted the importance of ensuring training pathways reflect the realities of where people live, learn and work.

With skills shortages continuing in key sectors that many regional communities rely on, the discussions reinforced how essential strong apprenticeship systems are to building local capability and supporting long-term economic resilience.

A key theme was the need for more connected supports to help learners thrive throughout their training journey. This aligns with what we see every day — that when people feel supported, they gain the confidence to complete their training and build meaningful careers close to home.

MRAEL remains committed to contributing to a future where regional Australians have strong, accessible and supported pathways into skilled careers that strengthen both individuals and their communities.

World Plumbing Day: Today we celebrate the trade — and the young hands learning it

Today on World Plumbing Day, we pause to recognise a trade that keeps communities healthy, safe and connected — and the people who make that possible every day. The global theme, “Plumbing Connects the World,” reminds us how essential skilled plumbers are in delivering safe water, sanitation and wellbeing to households and businesses across the globe.

This year, we’re proud to celebrate James, a Year 11 student from Emerald State High School whose commitment to the trade has already stood out. After completing two plumbing work‑experience placements — including giving up his Christmas holidays to work with Reeves Plumbing & Gas & Gas in Emerald, a growing local business — James showed the dedication, curiosity and attitude that future tradies are built on. Daniel Reeves recognised his strong interest in the field early, and the opportunity to support local talent naturally followed.

With the support of MRAEL, James is now beginning his school‑based apprenticeship, taking on real‑world learning that builds problem‑solving skills, exposes him to diverse work environments and sets the foundations of a strong trade career — all while balancing his schooling.

On a day that celebrates the importance of the plumbing trade, we’re reminded that its future relies on young people like James — eager to learn, willing to put in the work, and supported by employers who believe in them.

Photos (L–R): Will (James’s father), Daniel Reeves, Paige Reeves, and Damian Wall (our Apprentice and Employment Consultant).

And to every aspiring plumber out there — we’re cheering you on as you build your skills, discover your strengths, and join a trade that keeps our communities moving forward. Today, and every day, your work matters.
