Here’s a quick guide to a few frequently used terms that might help you understand medical cannabis related terminology better.
Cannabinoids
You’re not alone if you thought cannabinoids are only related to cannabis. The truth is that cannabinoids can be any and all chemical substances that join the cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body, while interacting with our natural endocannabinoid system.
Therefore, think of the word ‘cannabinoids’ as a sort of umbrella category that includes multiple compounds, including THC and CBD.
Terpenes
Terpenes are organic substances produced by plants and some animal and insect species. These substances are found in essential oils and resins and are responsible for the characteristic smell and flavour of the plant. In cannabis, myrcene is the terpene that is responsible for the distinctive smell of the cannabis plant.
H**p
Been seeing a lot of h**p in everyday products including food, cosmetics, and makeup? H**p is a type of plant from the Sativa family that is characterised by very low levels of THC and other psychoactive compounds in it. Instead, h**p is high in CBD levels. Therefore, it is virtually impossible to get high while consuming h**p.
Feminized cannabis seeds
To put it simply, feminized cannabis seeds are those seeds that will only produce female plants, and consequently, the buds that most growers need to harvest. Buds are only produced by female cannabis plants, and hence feminized cannabis seeds are considered more “precious” or valuable in terms of their yield.
Telehealth consultations
Telehealth is in its most basic form, a virtual consultation with a doctor or practitioner, using some form of technology such as a video call via a website or app. Telehealth usually includes consultations, follow up appointments to monitor symptoms and any changes to the condition of the patient, and further medical education if required.
Hash or Hashish
The cannabis plant has very fine hair growing on its surface, including on the flowers and leaves. These appendages are called trichomes and look like tiny sugar crystals. Hash is made from compressed trichomes and contains a higher level of THC and other cannabinoids, as compared to other forms of cannabis.
