🫣When you start your job search, it can be overwhelming. Before you go anywhere near a job ad and feel tempted to apply for the first thing that sounds semi-suitable, do a bit of personal due diligence. Given some thought to your own values, professional goals, your ideal work environment, potential employers and existing network. It may change how you go about your job search and you may find certain job ads will begin to appeal more than others.

A snippet of a recent Practice night out for dinner & drinks! It’s always a fun night 🥳 We also bid farewell to our fabulous Assistant Practice Manager as she goes on maternity leave. All the best Sharne, we will eagerly await news of your baby girl!

⭐️ It is so important to be part of a team with a fun social element. Work hard, play hard has always been our motto in life and I’m glad to see it filter through to our Practice values! The dental industry is fast paced & can be stressful so having an outlet to get to know each other & laugh about the crazy week you’ve had … is a great way to bond & improve staff morale.

⭐️ The downturn in the economy is making it harder for practices to splash out so whilst most businesses will be forced to tighten up their purse strings, we will continue to find ways to celebrate our team’s efforts within our social budget!

⭐️ If there is no social vibe in your practice, show some initiative and organise a few after work drinks at a local place near your practice, invite the team & see who shows up!

👉🏽 If there is no encouragement of a social vibe & you miss it, remember there are plenty of fun practices out there so do your due diligence & if it’s time to seek a new opportunity, you know where to find me!

What I’d tell my 20-30 year old friends & clients…

🙏🏽 I hope you’re taking time to rest & recharge this weekend.

👉🏽 I want you to know that if you’re in your 20s and 30s, these are the best years of your life. Don’t waste them on things that won’t matter in 10 years.

🙌🏽 I mean the 40s are pretty awesome too because I know who I am and what I want without a shadow of a doubt & when things become murky, I have my tools & resources to navigate through.

👉🏽 BUT if I knew then what I know now, I would have loved the body I was in, more. I would have enjoyed those moments with my youthful parents, more. I would have lost sleep over the latest work stress, much less.

🌟 Most of all I would have slept better knowing I really did give each day my best shot & if it didn’t go to plan, well I learnt something & sometimes when it goes to 💩 rest is best.

Sometimes I think we live in an upside down world. Most people spend about 70% of the week working & around 30% doing chores & attending to basic human needs. Maybe if you’re lucky, you can make space somewhere within that 30% to do the things you want to do before you die.

👉🏽 Sobering thought & I’ll be damned if I’m spending 70% of my time doing something I don’t enjoy in a place I’m not valued. Like many people, I used those Melbourne lockdowns during Covid to reassess & dream a little. I started my business & a Motherhood + mental health blog . Reason being I knew I had to respond to my needs, to intentionally craft something worthy of my energy.

✨ I knew I deserved more and so do you.

👉🏽 You are more than your job…. but damn, life becomes so much more enjoyable when work is a place for you to thrive & grow. And maybe just maybe, you can flip this upside down world to create space for more of what you love!

Most clients I talk to have a good idea of where they want to be in 3 to 5 years. These are some of the things I often hear…’I want to…

- be established with busy books
- be showcasing Insta worthy treatment
- experience different types of practices
- do more cosmetic or surgical treatment (as a Dentist)
- have a good mentor and a supportive working environment
- utilise full scope (as an OHT)
- become a practice owner

> However, very few know the steps required to get there. It’s important for you to begin by having the right mindset. In my experience as a Resume Writer and Interview Coach, I’ve noticed those clients who work on their mindset are better able to find suitable jobs and achieve their goals.
