Jargon is the silent killer of learning.

Every technical term is not just a word. It represents an entire concept someone decided needed its own label.

So before you can think clearly, you have to dejargonize.

Most people think some topics are just inherently hard to learn. But that’s not how it works.

Instead of asking “why is this hard?” ask “What makes something feel easy?”

Something feels intuitive when it fits a pattern you already recognize. Throw a pen in the air, and you know it falls. That’s a pattern you built before you could talk.

Your brain does this with everything. It takes new information and scans for existing patterns that match. In learning science, this is called “schema fit”. When there’s a fit, the topic clicks. When there isn’t, you feel stuck and overwhelmed.

Had a blast running todays workshop with
The title was “Study like a doctor”

This was actually the same title as one of the first large workshops I ran on study skills back in 2017.

Before that I’d only done classes and private coaching so that workshop was my first attempt at a large format study skills seminar.

Who would’ve thought I’d get to travel to another country to run the workshops on invitation from Australia’s largest medical student convention.

Working with med students is always fun. Kind of a foot back in my old world and it always gives me a full circle kind of feeling.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s half-day workshop with one of Australia’s largest companies!
