How lucky are we?!?! Today the amazing .movement is delivering a masterclass for one of our workplace wellbeing clients, Accommodation Association of Australia.

Unna will be exploring the concept of motivation. With activities around the roadblocks we encounter, breaking through resistance and how to get clear on when we are bull $hitting ourselves out of healthy decisions.

I’m delighted to have such a highly sought after exercise physiologist collaborating with Lift Your Wellbeing and I know our clients are going to find this masterclass really valuable.

Transform your mind & you will experience life changing results.

The physical results for are evident to see, that’s a seriously impressive 14kg (2.5 stones) dropped in 10 weeks.

These extraordinary changes have come from the powerful and inspiring mindset that Chris has had throughout this process of working together.

As a small business owner, Chris is a busy man who has many stressful situatons to work through. In my opinion, it was the amazing reshaping of his relationship with stress that has been the catalyst for the physical changes you see.

Here’s some of the highlights that have contributed to his success,

🍻 Quit drinking for 8 weeks, completly transforming his relationship with alcohol.

✏️ Started journalling every morning, which has helped him stay connected to his reasons for going on this journey of lifestyle change as well as work through his stressors.

🗓️ Exercise and meal planning every sunday for the week ahead, which helped rekindle his love of cooking.

💪 Hit the gym 3 times per week following a strength program I designed for him and is now loving boxing classes.

🧠 Utilised some positive psychology techniques to reframe stressful situations in his mind.

📞 Was honest and vulnerable in our coaching conversations and always responded to the challenges and guidance I set for him.

😃 He’s now more present and engaged when with his loved ones and staff members.

💕 Another important result of this transformation has been the positive impact that Chris’ new lifestyle has had on those around him. Chris’ partner reached out to me a few weeks ago to thank me for supporting him and that she had noticed a big positive change in him. It’s vital that we remember the impact that our health and wellbeing has on other people so I loved this feedback.

All of these changes above are practical and achievable for anyone, you just need the right mindset and support.

If you’re ready ( not everyone is ) to make some lifestyle changes to positively transform your physical and mental health then reach out to learn more about my 1:1 coaching program.

What are the benefits of exercising with a friend?

1. Increased motivation: When you exercise with a friend, you can motivate and encourage each other to stick to your workout routine. Having a friend there can make exercising feel less like a chore and more like a fun social activity.
2. Accountability: When you make plans to exercise with a friend, you're more likely to stick to those plans because you don't want to let your
friend down. This can help you stay committed to your fitness goals.
3. Increased enjoyment: Exercising with a friend can make the experience more enjoyable, especially if you're doing an activity that you both enjoy. You can chat and catch up while getting your workout in.
4. Variety: Exercising with a friend can also expose you to different types of workouts or activities that you may not have considered otherwise.

Since moving back to Australia ( and post lockdowns) and I have been training together at least once a week, it’s always a sweat fest balanced with plenty of laughter and great chat.

If you’re looking to get fit, I’d highly recommend getting a friend involved with you on the journey

I love it when my clients inspire me with their actions to implement the changes they desire, that will take them towards a healthier and happier version of themselves.

Developing new habits can be really hard. Especially when we are highly stressed, our brain easily falls back into old habits.

There’s great research that shows if you pre plan the WHAT & WHEN of your desired change, then you’re significantly more likely to achieve it. Couple that with a coach to keep you accountable and you’re looking good 👏

One my clients sent me this photo this morning, he has taken our Sunday planning document to the next level by making it A2, laminating it and putting it on the wall to refer to throughout the week once the busyness kicks in👏

I won’t the share the completed version but a big part of the Vigour & Joy approach is to sit down on a Sunday, map out your meals, workouts and any other lifestyle changes we are working on and to send me a photo so I can provide accountability and support.

These days I am a big believer that we need to take better ownership of our health and wellbeing.

This is an inspiring example of someone who is owning the change they want to experience and it’s a pleasure to guide them along that journey.

‘I’ve come to a frightening conclusion, it’s my daily mood that makes the weather, I possess tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous’

One my current clients is a teacher, and she brought this amazing quote from Haim G. Ginott to my attention, he’s a famous teacher and child psychologist.

It really stopped me in my tracks.

My client said to me, this is a quote she reflects on each day.

That if she is in a bad mood, that’ll impact the children and vise versa. That’s a lot of pressure.

I’ve sat with this for a few weeks as it resonated with me so much.

It is not isolated to just teachers and children.

We have all had managers who light us up with their amazing mood, energy and communication style.

And we have absolutely all have had the opposite, where working for a certain manager just drains the life out of you. The weather is bleak on those days.

So, if you’re a leader or a parent, which most of you reading this will be. Then you need to take this one seriously.

Through my current Positive Psychology studies, I am learning loads about emotions and emotional regulation strategies.

Over the past few weeks I have been using this app called The Mood Metre, it’s really insightful to better understand what emotions I am feeling in that present moment and why I might be feeling them.

From there, I can decide whether I am happy to stay in that emotional state or implement a strategy to move out of it.

Understanding our emotions is a huge part of improving our health and wellbeing as you’ll instantly make better decisions.

Once you start noticing how good your mood is after you’re regularly exercising, eating well, respecting your rest, journaling, using your strengths, and engaging with your friends and hobbies.

You won’t turn back.

Is it time to start making the sunshine more often?

This one is for our Northern hemisphere clients and friends of Lift Your Wellbeing.

If you've taken our free 7 day sleep challenge you'll know how crucial light exposure in the eyes is to reset your internal body clock every day and kick start the awake / sleepiness cycle.

However with the winter months, you can wake up in the dark, commute, stay in the office and your eyes are very rarely exposed to enough natural light to let the brain know what time of the day it is. You can essentially be jet lagged from your brains perspective ( without the great holiday memories).

1 - A S.A.D light, put it on your christmas wish list, it'll slowly brighten your room with 'sunlight' just before your alarm so your brain gets a sense that it is the morning and can kick start all the natural hormone processes that begin from there.

2 - Vitamin D is the other one to be mindful of. If you're not getting 15 minutes of sun exposure each day you may be Vit D deficient over these months. A safe dosage of a vitamin D supplement may work for you ( not advice just a general statement and something I do each winter).

3 - Keep up the water in take, even though you might be colder and not feel like it. Add some fresh fruit to a jug of water if you need a little more flavour. Starting the day with a glass of water, having a glass with every meal and keeping a bottle on your desk are all great ways to ensure you're doing the absolute most important foundational element of good health and wellbeing.

4 - Home workouts can be a winner this time of year. Motivation to go for a run and head out in the rain to the gym naturally drops this time of year ( i know from my days of living in London). Remember how effective and time efficient home workouts were during lockdowns? You can still utilise these are part of your weekly exercise schedule to ensure the winter doesn't negatively impact your energy levels and waist line.

What else in on your wellbeing essentials list this time of year?

What would your best self do?

You know when you're tired and stressed and you make a decision that you later look back on think to yourself 'why did I do that?'

If your brain is low on energy or in a high stress state, this can impact our ability to think logically, we might act more out of the current emotional state we are in.

From my Positive Psychology study, I have learned a lot about emotional management. By better understanding the current emotions we are feeling, we can actively decide whether we want to take action to move out of that state or whether our current emotional position is already where we want to be.

One really simple but effective question you can ask yourself is, what would my best self do?

- Would your best self stop checking emails in the evening and be present with your family?
- Would your best self take that lunch break and get outside for some movement and fresh air?
- Would your best self remember to let your team members know how much you appreciate their hard work?
- Would your best self invest in themselves by doing exercise before work?
- Would your best self say no to that extra glass of wine and get a great night of sleep?

I know from my years of being an Accountant and a health coach for busy professionals that your work cup can be overflowing so much that you don't have the time or energy for the other important cups of health and family life but this simple question can be powerful enough to shift your mindset and improve your decisions.

Give it a try a few times this week and let me know how you have got on.

What's the difference in happiness levels between 2 people?

There's a pretty fascinating and well research theory called the Happiness Pie, you may have heard of it.

It proposes that the difference between 2 peoples happiness levels is down to 3 main factors.

50% Gene expression
10% Their current circumstances
40% Their intentional activities

You'd be forgiven for thinking that someones current circumstances ( rich /poor, sick / healthy, employed / unemployed) would have a much larger impact than 10%

However it is believed that our 'intentional activities' are the biggest drivers on our happiness levels, no matter what is going on in our life.

Some of these intentional activities may include
- Engaging in regular exercise
- Helping other people
- Spending quality time with friends and family
- Working towards your goals and ambitions
- Getting high quality sleep
- Having a regular gratitude practice.
The list goes on...

So there's some food (pie) for thought for you...

I know at times when I was a very busy Accountant, I felt my happiness was determined by my circumstances ( deadlines, busy season, hard clients and long commutes) but what I discovered later in my professional career was I still had a lot of power and control over my intentional activities and these were the REAL DRIVERS of my happiness.

You can experience a life packed with joy, no matter how busy and stressful your job is.

🚨 Very Serious and Important 🚨

And this is going to require your full attention please.

I was just watching Home Alone for the 100th time

And can confirm it is the undisputable BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER

Although I might be biassed as my parents accidentally named me after the main character

I always watch Home Alone 1 and 2 this time of the year

It gets me into the feel good Christmas vibes no matter how old or busy I am

So do you agree? Home Alone is the best Christmas movie

Or, do you have another favourite?
