Linen textured, hand loomed sustainable raffia made in Madagascar within a micro-economic project for women to help them out of poverty. Handmade in Madagascar in a Free Trade,
microeconomic project for women, from the finest hand stripped raffia akin to linen and using natural pigments for colouring. The hats are packable (rolled up) and merely shake open unscathed they are also 'ironable'. From this great project, women in parlous circumstances are able to alleviate the poverty in which they, and their children live. To give you an idea of what the lay of the land is in
Madagascar, there are approx. 25 physicians per 200,000 persons, and for medical attention, it's a pay as you go scenario. Infant mortality rates run at 75 per 1,000 live births.
