You’ve probably been hearing about microplastics for years now - but what you might not know is that these tiny plastic particles are now being found in human tissues…

Yep. Scientists have identified microplastics in places like the lungs, liver, brain, breastmilk, placenta, and even semen.

So what does that actually mean for your health?

Truth is, the research is still catching up. But here’s what we do know:

Many plastics contain hormone-disrupting chemicals like BPA and phthalates (see previous posts where I’ve shared about these).

And these microplastics don’t just float around harmlessly - they act like little sponges, soaking up toxic chemicals like heavy metals, flame retardants, and PFAS.

Once inside your body, these may contribute to inflammation, oxidative stress, and even cellular damage. This can show up as brain fog, fine lines and wrinkles and even weight gain!

And for women in their 40s; already navigating hormone shifts, sleep issues, and stubborn weight gain, this kind of hidden stressor matters.

Your body is already doing so much. Let’s not make it harder.

Here’s how you can reduce your daily exposure to plastics:

🌱 Choose reusable over single-use
🌱 Filter your drinking water
🌱 Avoid bottled water
🌱 Don’t microwave in plastic
🌱 Store food in glass
🌱 Use wooden cutting boards

It’s hard to avoid plastics completely but even small changes can help your body feel lighter, clearer, and more supported.

Are you already doing some of these? Or is this the nudge you need to take the next step?

Share this with someone you care about so that they can learn too x

31 days in…

Here’s what’s been on my camera roll 📸🎥

No big resolutions, just a focus on steady progress—chipping away at my Bachelor’s and working toward more time freedom via my wellness biz.

One thing I know for sure though: my two girls are 8 and 6, and I want to be present for all the moments that matter—sports days, excursions, concerts, and everything in between.

I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be fully WFH in my IT role which gets me that little bit closer to the dream. But I still have to apply for time off, and let’s be real—true flexibility is the goal.

For anyone else juggling career, goals, and family—how’s your January been? What’s been your highlight? 🚀

When we think about health, most of us immediately think about diet 🥗and exercise 💪🏼

While eating well and staying active are a crucial part of maintaining good health, they’re not the only factors.

Have you ever considered how your environment impacts your health?👀

I’m referring to things like our indoor air quality, our water quality, and the chemicals we’re exposed to via the products we buy and use (personal care products, cleaning products, etc).

For example, things like home fragrances, cleaning, and laundry products, as well as personal care products contain fragrance mixtures that often have phthalates in them.

ICYMI phthalates (pronounced ‘thalates’) are a group of chemicals that can interfere with hormone health and are linked to things like diabetes, insulin resistance, breast cancer, endometriosis, infertility and more.

When we use fragranced items in the home, we’re constantly being exposed to these hormone-disrupting chemicals, and over time, this can increase our risk of health issues.

We spend over 90% of our lives in a built environment (our homes and/or offices) - it stands to reason that the things we bring into that space will have some bearing on our overall health.

To truly take charge of your health, I want to encourage you to take note of your environment and how spaces you spend time in and the products you interact with could be linked to the symptoms you have - which for many women I work with is menstrual cycle issues, sleep disturbances and inability to shift the weight (or unexplained weight gain).

By making small but meaningful changes—like using non-toxic cleaners, improving air quality, and minimising plastics - you can remove barriers and as I’ve seen, often times create a breakthrough in reaching optimal health and reversing these chronic health symptoms.

Make sure you’re following along as I’ll be sharing lots of easy ways to lower your exposure to harmful chemicals in your everyday environment!

Are hormone disruptors driving your health into chaos? Swipe to find out!

🔥Inflammation🔥 in the body might be a term you’re familiar with but what does it mean?

Basically it’s your body’s natural response to injury, infection, or other threats. Inflammation isn’t inherently bad… in the short term, inflammation can be good and is a sign that your body is doing what it should to stay healthy!

Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is not good. When your body continues to send out inflammatory responses, it can lead to chronic disease, including things like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Many things can trigger inflammation in the body; poor diet, chronic stress, and even lack of exercise.

One factor that is often overlooked is exposure to environmental toxins, including chemicals found in the products we use every day, the foods we eat, the water we drink, and even the air we breathe.

For example, hormone-disrupting chemicals like BPA and phthalates can cause oxidative stress, which in turn activates inflammatory pathways. Because exposure to these chemicals is pretty constant, this can leave our body in a state of chronic inflammation 🔥

Inflammation is closely linked to metabolic disorders such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, and there is a substantial body of research showing that hormone-disrupting chemicals are likely part of the problem.

We also know that heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium, among others are also linked to inflammation in various tissues:

lead = inflammation in the brain
cadmium = inflammation in the kidney
arsenic = inflammation in the blood

Reducing chronic inflammation is key to protecting your overall health!

Along with a healthy diet, exercise, good sleep, and stress management, we also want to do our best to lower exposure to environmental toxins!

Swipe to see my top tips for how to do this, and make sure you’re following along as I’ll be posting more about everyday toxins!

Is any of this surprising to you? Which of these will you do to help reduce inflammation & lower toxic exposure in your daily life? LMK in the comments!👇🏼

Could environmental toxins be undermining your family’s health this winter?🚨

Unfortunately what is left out of the conversation regarding optimal health is turning out to be just as big a deal as eating well and exercising. And that is the burden on our bodies that environmental chemicals are are causing 🌍🧪

I’m talking about the chemicals that are hidden in synthetic fragrances we use, beauty products, home cleaning products, laundry and washing products - our every day interaction with chemicals.

If you feel you are doing all the ‘right’ things with your health but just not seeing the results or generally feel like 💩 consider how hidden toxins may be playing a part.

How they affect your immune health:

❌ Disrupts Immune Function
Chemicals can mess with immune cells, making it harder for your body to fight off infections. This means more colds, flu, and other illnesses.

❌ Increases Inflammation
Exposure to certain chemicals can trigger inappropriate inflammatory responses, leading to chronic inflammation, which weakens your immune system and can trigger inflammatory conditions and autoimmune diseases.

❌ Immune Suppression
Some toxic exposures have been shown to suppress immune function, leading to more infections, slower wound healing, and even reduced vaccine effectiveness.

❌ Triggers Allergic and Autoimmune Reactions
Some chemicals can cause allergic reactions and autoimmune responses in susceptible people. There is strong evidence that asthma, allergies and autoimmune conditions have a significant environmental component.

❌ Disrupts Gut Health
Many toxic exposures can upset the balance of your gut microbiome, crucial in regulating a healthy immune system. Gut imbalances (dysbiosis) can weaken the immune system leading to inflammation and autoimmune flare-ups.

This post is not to scare you!

It’s to build awareness and help empower you to know better so you can do better🤓

So..have you heard about endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) before??

Unfortunately these are the kind of chemicals we want to avoid as much as we can (sometimes not always possible) because they mess with our beautiful hormones.

EDCs are linked to thyroid disorders, obesity, PCOS, endometriosis, breast cancer, ADHD, impaired glucose tolerance and more…

Ladies, we have enough going on, we do not need the kind of havoc it creates in our bodies!

So where can we find EDCs?

Mainly plastics, personal care products, and household goods.

I know that can sound overwhelming but hear me out.

Let’s talk through 5 reasons why we need to know about these chemicals, why it matters so much and why they deserve our attention!

Scroll through the slides for more 👆🏼

It’s not all gloom and doom I promise!

Just remember that understanding where exposures happen can be empowering because then you can focus on LOWERING those exposures as a next step💪🏼

Make sure you share this with a friend and follow me so you can catch upcoming posts on this topic.
