You’ve probably been hearing about microplastics for years now - but what you might not know is that these tiny plastic particles are now being found in human tissues…
Yep. Scientists have identified microplastics in places like the lungs, liver, brain, breastmilk, placenta, and even semen.
So what does that actually mean for your health?
Truth is, the research is still catching up. But here’s what we do know:
Many plastics contain hormone-disrupting chemicals like BPA and phthalates (see previous posts where I’ve shared about these).
And these microplastics don’t just float around harmlessly - they act like little sponges, soaking up toxic chemicals like heavy metals, flame retardants, and PFAS.
Once inside your body, these may contribute to inflammation, oxidative stress, and even cellular damage. This can show up as brain fog, fine lines and wrinkles and even weight gain!
And for women in their 40s; already navigating hormone shifts, sleep issues, and stubborn weight gain, this kind of hidden stressor matters.
Your body is already doing so much. Let’s not make it harder.
Here’s how you can reduce your daily exposure to plastics:
🌱 Choose reusable over single-use
🌱 Filter your drinking water
🌱 Avoid bottled water
🌱 Don’t microwave in plastic
🌱 Store food in glass
🌱 Use wooden cutting boards
It’s hard to avoid plastics completely but even small changes can help your body feel lighter, clearer, and more supported.
Are you already doing some of these? Or is this the nudge you need to take the next step?
