For the past two decades, I have dedicated my career to the area of healthcare, spanning in both Greece and Australia. Following my nursing education and service in the medical corps in Greece, fate led me to Australia in 2001, a place I proudly call home. Throughout my journey, my commitment to holistic care has been a guiding force in my professional adventures. I've had the privilege of working

across various domains of healthcare, from acute settings to community care, serving as a registered nurse and care coordinator. Over the course of the last 13 years, I've had the honor of caring for some of the most vulnerable and complex individuals in our society. This invaluable experience has not only enriched my clinical expertise but has also fostered profound personal growth, shaping me into a more compassionate and empathetic healthcare provider. Like many, I've navigated my own share of hardships, including experiences of grief and loss, as well as struggles with my own emotional well-being. However, through introspection and self-discovery, I've emerged from these challenges with a newfound strength, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for life. This inner journey has reignited my sense of self-love, leaving me feeling stronger, healthier, and more determined than ever before. Now, I recognize that it's my time to give back—to share the love and gratitude that fills my heart with those in need. I am driven by a profound sense of purpose, eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Kosta Michalopoulos, RN, RCT

Do you know a Greek-Australian man who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders? The one who is always there for everyone else, but rarely takes time to check in on himself?

Send him this post.

We created The Paréa Circle because Greek men need a space where they don’t have to have it all together. It’s a new, monthly online gathering just for us. No clinical jargon, no judgment. Just 8 blokes on Zoom talking honestly about the pressure of it all.

You don't need to speak fluent Greek. You just need to show up.
Spots are strictly limited to keep the group small. Grab yours below.

Managing Overwhelm: Men's Workshop

When the demands of our personal or professional lives exceed our capacity to cope, we enter a state of overwhelm. It affects our emotional, physical, and mental states to the point of shutdown. Often experienced as a state of bewildered confusion, overwhelm restricts our ability to think clearly and act rationally, leaving us feeling blindsided and incapacitated.

This 90-minute workshop is designed to help you understand and untangle this experience. We will explore the circumstances that trigger overwhelm in an open, structured discussion format. Following this, you will be offered practical tools and techniques to manage overwhelm and more effectively liberate yourself from its grip in daily life.

To be human is to have suffered; there is no escaping it. Yet, it is through understanding our experiences that we build the capacity to move forward. This workshop provides a safe, non-judgemental space to learn, reflect, and connect.

We have been working quietly in the background over the past few months. The Men Spirit team is expanding, and with this growth comes a renewed focus on reaching more men and creating meaningful, useful spaces for connection and support.

As part of this expansion, we are bringing more opportunities to gather, reflect, and learn.

Our newest monthly men’s circle in Traralgon is starting on Wednesday, May 20th at 7:00 PM. Facilitated by Shane Brabazon at the Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House, this is a safe, non-judgemental space to share experiences and build social connection. You can register for the Traralgon circle here:

We are also holding a Managing Overwhelm Workshop in Heidelberg on Thursday, June 11th. Facilitated by Adam Weaver, this 90-minute session explores the circumstances that trigger overwhelm and offers practical tools to navigate it. You can find more details and register here:

More circles and spaces will be announced very soon 💙

Hristos Anesti to all our Greek and Orthodox friends who were celebrating Easter yesterday. I hope it was a time of connection and reflection for you and your families.

Last week marked an important milestone for The Men Spirit. We received our first referral from a major public healthcare provider for a man to join our circles. This is a significant step in our commitment to working alongside established health services to provide community-based support where it is needed most.

For those looking to join us this week, our St Kilda gathering this Wednesday is currently full. However, we still have some spots remaining for our upcoming circle in Mt Waverley on the 24th. You can find the link to register below.

We are also beginning something new, a circle specifically for men of Greek heritage. The intention here is to open an honest conversation about some of the limiting beliefs that can come with our culture, while also celebrating the strengths and values that ground us. If this is something you would like to know more about, please send me a message.

What does it mean to be a man today?

It is a question that often comes with a lot of noise and very few clear answers. We believe the best way to navigate this is TOGETHER. Our monthly gatherings are not about fixing anyone or offering quick solutions. They are simply a safe, non-judgemental space to connect, share experiences, and build genuine resilience.

Our next gathering in St Kilda is coming up on Wednesday, 15th April. We intentionally keep these circles small to ensure everyone has the space they need for meaningful conversation. There are currently only 3 spots remaining.

If you are looking for a grounded community where you can just be yourself, we would be glad to have you join us.

We are living through a period of constant noise, conflict, uncertainty, and an endless stream of information that our nervous systems were never built to handle.

Setting limits on what you absorb is not about switching off or only caring about yourself. It is about staying grounded enough to actually show up. For the people in your life. For your community. For the moments where your presence makes a real difference.

You cannot pour from an empty cup, and you cannot help others if the world has already worn you down.

The manosphere is easy to dismiss. The anger, the posturing, the extreme views — it is all right there on the surface. But beneath it is something far more familiar: fear, disconnection, and a desperate need to belong.

Louis Theroux's documentary gave us a window into that world. What it didn't do was ask the harder question — what are these men actually searching for, and why aren't they finding it anywhere else? That is the conversation worth having.

This International Women’s Day, I wanted to share some words from Dr Jackson Katz from his book "Every Man" to reflect on the difference between feeling guilt and taking responsibility as men when it comes to gender-based violence.

"I don't' feel guilty for being a man or a white person or for being heterosexual. That's silly, As far as I know, I was born that way. What should I feel guilty about it? I am neither proud nor ashamed of any of these features of my identity. But I do feel responsible for all of them...

As a man in a society and world in which misogynous violence is pervasive, I feel it is my responsibility to do whatever I can to make the world a better, fairer and safer place for women and girls. Not because I am perfectly non-sexist or have this all figured out. Far from it. Like everyone else, I am a work in progress. But I feel that I should do whatever I can because I am a man in a patriarchal society that gives me and other men unfair disadvantages that result in harm to others, not because I personally feel guilty.

Moreover, feeling guilty doesn't accomplish much of anything. Guilt is not a motivating emotion. People who feel guilty are more likely to retreat and be ineffectual, whereas people animated by a sense of responsibility are more likely to do something constructive"

Happy International Women’s Day 💙💙

Is your "I'm fine" starting to sound a bit rusty? Might be time for a tune-up.

We're holding our monthly men's gathering in St Kilda. It's a space to drop the performance and have a real conversation for a couple of hours. We talk about everything from the challenges of work and relationships to just figuring out how to be a good man in a complex world.

No pressure, no fixing, just connection.

There’s a difference between reacting… and responding.
Reacting is automatic. Responding takes awareness.

When you start paying attention to what sets you off, what hurts, what frustrates you, you begin to understand yourself on a deeper level. That’s where growth lives. Not in avoiding the hard stuff, but in facing it honestly.
Life will test you. It always does. The question is whether you let it harden you or shape you.

Self-awareness isn’t weakness. It’s power.

We men are interesting creatures.

Put us in a room and we can talk about footy, business, tools, politics.
Ask us how we’re actually going… and suddenly it’s weather updates.

Friday night we’re gathering again. We’ve got a short Qi Gong session led by one of the men in the group.

No pressure. No spotlight. No one forcing you to share your childhood story in the first five minutes.

You don’t need to be spiritual.
You don’t need to be struggling.
You don’t even need to know why you’re coming.

Just show up.

Men's emotional vocab: typically a 2-word dictionary. Giving voice to inner feelings? Game changer.

Men often struggle with a limited emotional vocabulary. Learning to understand and voice these feelings? It's surprisingly powerful. What emotions do you find hardest to express?
