“I couldn’t remember the last time I went to the zoo! I feel so happy, it was such a lovely day.”

A group of residents from Regis Nedlands recently enjoyed a wonderful day out at Perth Zoo, spending time together and exploring a range of animals from Australia and around the world.

For resident Aurora, the visit was a chance to spend time with friends while learning something new. “The group really enjoyed the experience,” she said, “the guides at Perth Zoo were very helpful and caring, sharing lots of interesting information.”

“Music has played a significant role in my life. When I was a child, I learned to play the piano from a couple of well-known composers in New Zealand. In my teenage years I developed a passion for singing. I joined the Salvation Army Choir when I was sixteen years old and have been singing with them until just a few years ago. I loved being a part of a group and meeting interesting people. With my choir, I travelled around New Zealand and one of the highlights was singing for a General who had flown out from England. I decided to join the Regis Choir because I love to sing and the songs were different to the ones I am used to singing. With the Salvation Army Choir, I mainly sang religious songs so it was fun to sing more popular songs. By joining the Regis Choir, I met some lovely residents who I hadn’t talked to before and we enjoyed sharing stories together.” - Doreen, Regis Camberwell resident

Regis Aspley in Queensland came alive with colour, music, dance and delicious food recently as residents and employees came together to celebrate Nepali New Year.

For resident Sid, it was “a fantastic morning.” He said, “it was great to see the team get involved and wear their traditional dress.”

The team sung the Nepali national anthem and performed a dance for residents.

At Regis Sippy Downs in Queensland, no two days look the same. For Lifestyle Coordinator Susie, that’s exactly what makes the role meaningful.

After nearly 20 years working in primary schools, Susie moved into aged care in 2017. “People think lifestyle is just playing games,” she said. “It’s more than that. Some days you’re running activities, others you’re sitting with someone one on one. It changes every day.”

For Susie, the most rewarding part of the role comes from the impact those moments have. “A resident came back after a day out and said, ‘Can we do it again?’ That’s what it’s about.”

This poem was written by David J Garic, resident at Regis Bunbury in Western Australia, shared with us this ANZAC Day in remembrance of those who served and sacrificed.

"Lest we forget

On ANZAC Day at dawn’s first fragile light
When silence holds the earth so tight
A lone bugle cries into the sky
A haunting, timeless lullaby.

Boots once pressed on distant sand
Young hearts called from home and land
They carried dreams, both brave and true
Not knowing what the day would do.

The sea still whispers Gallipoli
Of courage carved in history
Where fear stood close, yet did not win
For mateship burned so deep within.

They were sons, and brothers too
With skies of hope in brightest blue
Yet war would turn those skies to grey
And steal their youth so far away.

No glory shines in mothers’ tears
No triumph heals the silent years
But in their loss, a truth remains
Their sacrifice runs through our veins.

We stand today where they once fell
In quiet thought, in stories we tell
Not just of battles, loss, and strife
But of their gift our very life.

So bow your head, let silence speak
For strength was found in those once weak
And in that hush, their voices say
“Remember us this ANZAC Day.”"

Marie Kirkby, resident of Regis Gatton in Queensland, is 105 years old and is believed to be Australia’s oldest living World War II veteran.

She enlisted in 1944 with the Royal Australian Army Service Corps, serving as a driver during the final year of the war.

This week, Marie met with Queensland Premier David Crisafulli as part of ongoing recognition of veterans and the importance of preserving their stories.

This ANZAC Day, Marie will lead her local parade in Gatton, representing a generation whose service helped shape Australia and whose contribution continues to be recognised today.

At Regis Dandenong North in Victoria, ANZAC Day is shaped by personal contributions from residents.

This year, Tehea has created a wreath of crocheted poppies to be laid during the home’s ANZAC Day service.

Over several months, she made 100 poppies by hand, bringing them together as a tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

Moments like this help create meaningful experiences for residents and their families.
